“Idyllic setting”

We had a weeks family holiday here. The cottage is comfortable for 3 people with 2 two-seater sofas and table/chairs in the open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area. The kitchen is a little dated and it would help if there were a few more cooking items (e.g. a frying pan, microwable dishes). The spiral staircase is a novelty but not for the faint-hearted (or less mobile) but we knew this before we booked. There is a nice double room with lots of storage, small single room with limited storage and a nice, clean, modern bathroom. The log burner is Fab but there are good heaters in each room. The setting is off the main roads, down little lanes so is very quiet although there are neighbours close by. The valley views are lovely and there are numerous walks close by (lots of info in the cottage); we did one through forest and river on our first day! There is a pub in the village but we didn't try this. Monmouth is the closest town and is lovely for shopping etc. Great base to explore from.

“Great place for walking and relaxing”

It’s safe to say that we feel pretty comfortable in recommending this wonderful little cottage. At the end of a long road it’s right in the heart of the Wye Valley and, as the pictures tell you, over looks the valley itself, with a bubbly-perfect patio to enjoy it from. Although next to the owners’ house, the owners are extremely welcoming and informal so you certainly get a real sense of privacy and solitude. The cottage itself is simple with no frills to speak of but it’s very cosy and comforting and impossible not just to relax and enjoy the sounds of the countryside. For us though, what really made it special was the ability just to put your boots on, leave the front door and find yourself in stunning countryside with plenty of fantastic walks beckoning you to explore. What’s more, Jane has put together a comprehensive selection of walks and has put a great deal of thought and effort into their descriptions so you can more or less head off for 3-5 mile walks without even taking a map. It’s this kind of attention to detail that get Robins Nest the five stars, that and the wonderful setting.

“Peaceful and idyllic”
Reviewed 28 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We may not have had the best of weather, but the cottage itself was cosy and well equipped, in a lovely area with stunning views. Dog-friendly and within easy reach of Monmouth and many local beauty spots (Symonds Yat, Forest of Dean, Tintern Abbey etc) all rich in wildlife. Owners Jane and Tim are friendly and obliging.

“Another fabulous stay”
Reviewed 22 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

This is our third stay at Robin's barn. As always a cosy comfortable cottage in a fabulous location. Brilliant documented walks and very helpful, obliging owners.
It was a shame it was only for the weekend. We will be back for more walking and relaxation. The dogs loved it too.

“2nd visit, will return for a 3rd!”
Reviewed 22 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

On returning from our first visit in September 2014 we promptly booked again for April 2015 and had another wonderful holiday. Robin’s Barn is an idyllic, peaceful retreat in breath-taking countryside with all the comforts of home. You’ll receive a lovely warm welcome from the owners and if you need any help with what to do or where to go during your stay they’re a mine of information. We particularly enjoyed the log-burning stove (although there is additional heating all around the cottage if needed) and the amazing view from our private patio area. This time we took some lovely walks and visited Chepstow Castle but we will be returning soon and hopefully with our bikes. Whilst Robin’s Barn is very secluded, Monmouth town is only 10 minutes’ drive away with 3 supermarkets and a very wide choice of restaurants, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. Around Robin’s Barn, we would also recommend The Inn at Penallt for a special occasion and The Boat Inn on the river bank in Redbrook for a relaxing pub lunch.
