A small boutique winery producing great wines. Their Sauvignon Blanc is one of the best we have tasted in Hawke's Bay and the Pinot Gris is excellent. Tremendous reds and their Bordeaux style blends are great wines. The 2013s we tasted were drinking but would benefit from a few more years in the cellar - all long lived wines. Though a small winery Unison has library wines for sale - many of which have won international acclaim. Some of their wines are available in the UK, plus they ship internationally. Great tasting where you get in-depth information on vineyard and their wines. Well worth a visit.

One of the best!

Unison winery is a somewhat unassuming place but as we found out looks can be deceiving. Of the wineries we visited in the two days in the area including many of the big names, Unison wines were our favorite.

We started our tasting with their
Blush Rose (driest of the 3 they make). It is made from 3 grapes-cab, Merlot, Syrah -and was excellent, refreshing-and perfect for summertime. Next was their 2015 Rocky red blend: merlot 60%, cab-40% and at only only NZ$22-tastes like a much more expensive wine-rich and full. Next came the
2013 Reserve Merlot-which was an excellent year-wonderful expression of the grape. The 2013 Classic blend Gimblett gravels-merlot was our next choice -a cab Syrah merlot blend-good but I liked Rocky Red better. Next we sampled the 2013 Syrah Gimblett Gravels-good as well, light spice notes and finally the 2013 Blend “Selection” from-Gimblett Gravels-60% cab, 40 merlot-French oak-classic, big style blend-superb.

We liked things so much we had some wine shipped from the winery back to the states. They can arrange that for you at the winery which is nice.

While perhaps a bit less grand on the outside from some of the area wineries, the product here is the true star.

Highly recommended

After cycling from Napier on a warm day we were happy to reach this delightful Vineyard where we sat outdoors surrounded by lovely scenery and vines. Whilst some enjoyed tasting the handcrafted wines others did a ginger beer tasting which was also very good. With decisions made we then proceded to order from the lunch menu which provided seasonal freshly grown fare and the catch of the day. Beautifully presented and delicious we had to try desserts! The Panna Cotta was a 10 out of 10 and enhanced with strawberries and other subtle flavours. A fabulous end to our enjoyable lunch. Back on our bikes, satisfied and wine orders placed for delivery back home. Reasonably priced too.

We had a wonderful platter while tasting the fabulous wines. The rosé was my favourite and we couldn't leave without purchasing that and the Pinot Gris.
