Used to be Sally’s & a waste of a great location. Now it’s a great alternative to the reliable but pricey Duke.

Awesome food & spectacular service. Sophie is great! She shakes a mean margarita!

Well, North Island seems to have some cracking cafes to go with the stunning scenery. We've come across another one on the waterfront in Russell. The Butterfish is right on the wayside and is a perfect place to chill and watch the Bay life. There's a great selection of really good quality hot and cold snacks and the menu is just what you want. The coffee is excellent too. We dropped in on a rainy day and is was the perfect retreat and a great way to spend an hour while the rain poured. If youre in Russell anytime you should definately drop in for breakfast.

We walked the waterfront of Russell and this was the only place open, others closed for maintenance or closed from 10.30 till 12.00 seriously something wrong with these other business owners.

Back to Butterfish - you wont be disappointed, it was busy, had outside seating, had beachfront seating, had a nice menu and made great coffee.

Food came in a timely fashion, however, coffee came after, I would have liked my coffee first only so that I can order a second cup.

Staff polite and friendly - well worth a visit and will be coming back here too

Nice spot to watch comings and going on Russell Wharf. Actually struggled to find any other cafes with tables and counter food with coffee. But disappointing. No trim milk but then they do. “No straws mate” but then they find some. Order one of three bagels visible in the counter but they’ve run out. Minimal apologies. Must try harder.

What a delight! Informal, al fresco dining. We had heard how good it was and got a seat on the strand where we could watch the sun going down and people watch. Lovely varied menu and super food - breads and hummus followed by mouthwatering steaks and perfectly cooked vegetables. An excellent bottle of wine and cheerful and ebullient service from the staff - including a Lithuanian student on her travels. Enjoyed the whole vibe. Thank you!
