We made the big mistake to book this B&B in Nelson, New Zealand, this March - don't do it, don't go there!!!

Our ferry was delayed due to storms on the day of our arrival which we immediately informed the B&B about via e-mail. First thing, they didn't believe us, accused us of being liars. When we send them the proof they asked for, they only replied that they called the ferry company and since we would not be arriving before 12.30 am that night, they (quote) "... would have waited for you until 10pm, but unfortunately we wont be able to wait until after midnight. We recommend finding an accommodation in Picton". When we got this message, we were already on the ferry and did not have an accommodation for the same night anymore.

We managed somehow, but the worst thing now: they cancelled the booking, they were able to resell the room that night and still refuse to give us our money back!
The situation was totally out of our control, we (2 girls) didn't have an accommodation in the middle of the night thanks to THE BEACH HOUSE NELSON, found ourselves lost in a strange environment in a foreign country and still, WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT?!?! Definitely, this is the WORST GUEST MANAGEMENT IMAGINABLE!

Please, do NOT support these people, they will take your money and give you nothing in return! Don't make the same mistake as we did!!!

Room tip: do not book this at all!!!

We are very sorry you are unsatisfied about the way your situation was handled by us. Your statement is very unusual given that the majority of our responses from guests are overwhelmingly positive.

We always do our best to accommodate the needs of our guests especially when unforeseen circumstances arise.
Unfortunately due to your personal situation and without timely response to our request for clarification on your arrival time, we believed it was safer for you, given the time of night and the road conditions to stay in Picton.

To clarify that your accommodation with us was not cancelled, we have enclosed a booking.com statement as well as our full conversation history with you.

Sincerely we would like to make it up to you and offer you a free stay with us. Just give us a call next time you are in Nelson.

Thank you for getting back. We just called Bluebridge directly. The expected arrival time in Picton is 10.30pm. The travel time from Picton to Nelson is 2 hours. Expected arrival time here would be 0.30am at the 9th of March.
We would have waited for you until 10pm, but unfortunately we wont be able to wait until after midnight. We recommend finding an accommodation in Picton, please.

Your reservation did remain valid as we did not receive a cancellation request, nor are we able to cancel valid reservations through the booking.com system.
We understand the ferry delay had been out of your hands, but should be expected by their terms and conditions.
We would have loved to help you out, which was difficult as there was a conflict about your estimated arrival time. Following up the ferry delay we received your answer 7 hours later, which gave us no option to resell the reserved room as it had been blocked.
We are sorry about any inconvenience caused.

We stayed at The Beach House last year in March ( 2017) on the way to Abel Tasman NP. Simply a great place! It felt like home. Quiet, super clean, modern and home made/grown healthy food for yummy breakfast. Angie and Georg were super helpful and welcoming !
We are coming to NZ this year as well and since we will be in Nelson again - we are planning to stay at The Beach House:)

We asked friends to join us the evening at the Boat House to hear the Mimosa Duo. We had no idea what a thrill we had in store, the Duo were out of this world. They are both classic musicians who have changed to Gypsy Jazz after six months in France.

The whole evening was delightful, and there was a super man called Paul who lent his speakers which made for exceptional sound, real clarity with out unnecessary volume!

The audience had obviously gone especially for the music so were good to be with and a very appreciative group

My partner and I booked to stay at The Beach House last minute after visiting the Abel Tasman. Angie was so helpful on the phone as I called to find out if there was enough parking for our boat along with our car. Turns out it worked perfectly.
The garden is beautiful with raised veggie beds dotted around. What greeted us behind the front door was a stunning home with polished wooden floors, immaculately clean and tidy bathrooms, shower rooms, toilets, lounge and kitchen. We were able to choose from two of the larger rooms, both of which are fantastically equipped.
The beds are large (which helps when travelling with someone who is 6'4") and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and Angie was able to offer a wide variety of food which would appeal to everyone. Home cooked bread and preserves along with healthy muesli and home grown fruit. The scrummy filter coffee certainly set me up for the day!
The lounge is both modern and cosy with ample seating and a log burner. I would imagine it is very cosy in the winter. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away and not far from the Sprig and Fern!
We felt very spoilt staying with Angie and George, they were keen to make sure we had everything we needed.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again - in fact, I didn't want to leave. I cannot recommend The Beach House highly enough.

I stayed here for one night and it was like being at home. My hosts went out of their way to help me and nothing seemed to any bother. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and although bathrooms were shared this never seemed an issue and every room was full. A welcoming place and would definitely stay again next time I visit Nelson.
