Wafu bistro has a nice casual japanese feel to it. The decor is simple without being bland and it was nice to see the chef on working on display preparing the meals. We started with some mixed pickles which were good, then moved onto a sharing plater of sashimi and nigiri. The fish was obviously very fresh and there was a great selection. It was the right amount of food for two people. Our son who is vegetarian had the fried tofu in a dashi sauce. This was nice but there wasn't a great selection for him. We finished with vanilla ice cream topped with matcha green tea powder.
Overall the food was very good but I think a little pricey at $175.

What a disappointing night out. I was there with a group of six for a birthday party. It was cold in the restaurant so guests would keep their jackets on. We ordered different dishes and timing of the food delivery was all over the place. The food looked good, but taste was average. Not what we expected for the price we paid. Some of us would be finished eating while others were waiting. Halfway through there was a double up of an order, the waitress left it with us anyway. Turned out that they blamed us for the misplaced order and wanted us to pay for it at the till! It left us with a bitter taste. The treatment in front of other guests was embarrrassing and we won't return.

For those who admire Japanese cuisine with its subtle flavours the WAFU is the place to go. The two of us dropped in for Dinner and had a seat by the Sushi Bar. An excellent place to observe the skills of the Chef as he deftly sliced and diced the tuna, gurnard, cod and salmon into delicate portions. We started with miso soup (what else) and then a starter of chawan mushi and panko crumbed calamari. To lubricate the tonsils a bottle of Greenhough Chardonnay was procured.

For our main we had the Pohutakawa Platter. This was more than adequate for us sushi and sashimi made up of varieties of fish.

All up we paid about $135 for a very good meal

Upside
Excellent Food

We had a fun night sitting at the sushi bar eating delicious food. The seafood custard was devine. Very fresh ingredients.
