Review of The Kitchen

The Kitchen
Ranked #37 of 213 Restaurants in Nelson
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$5 - US$15
Description: The Kitchen is a wholefoods cafe at its simplest. We want to inspire you to think differently about the fuel we put in our bodies, to encourage you that making plant based and healthy choices doesn't mean missing out, in fact it's quite the opposite. It's not about being perfect, it's about achieving life balance and wellness through better nutrition and food knowledge. We use the best local produce (organic where possible) and nationally sought suppliers who offer quality natural ingredients, to produce freshly made, tasty seasonal foods for your health and enjoyment. We serve amazing Kokako organic coffee, the freshest of cold pressed juice and on the spot superfood smoothies! so good.

A little treat if you are a vegan or vegetarian or health conscious eco conscious person. Has a great space, very bright and welcoming, lots of little nooks and crannies and outdoor seating. Coffee is yummy but no soy and no syrups unfortunately otherwise excellent overall.

This is a place where you can let loose on a sugar free and dairy free diet. No need to ask anyone what's in the food, as it's all clearly labelled on the counter and in the menu. Bonus, it tastes great too.

The big surprise was how good my decaf coffee was. Had poached eggs on sour dough. Was very nice and eggs done just right. I don't mind paying a little extra for food that you know is good for you.

Similar high pricing to cafes in the area, just not the same quality of food or service to justify it. Noisy and a little cramped inside. Will suit some but not my style. Better options elsewhere.

We were only passing through Nelson and we needed to stop for breakfast, this place stood out due to the strong reviews on TA and the healthy looking menu.

Definitely looking to cater for the Vegetarian/Vegan crowd with a good options. A bit of contrast to the poor range of food choice we had experienced so far from New Zealand, this was more in line with European cafes/restaurants trying to move toward a more sustainable menu.

I really liked the menu choices and selected scrambled eggs which I really enjoyed but my girlfriend found her granola to be average and she didn't finish it, I finished it for her and liked it myself. We bought some sandwiches to take with us which were OK, but not among the best we've had.

Overall I really like what they are doing here and I hope they continue to improve and refine the menu, New Zealand needs more places like this!
