Our room was a basic hotel room and our bed was comfortable. But the noise from Fat Sally's across the street meant you had no hope of any sleep before 12.30am. So if you are attending a function and won't be back until late then no problem. Otherwise be prepared for little sleep. Good cooked breakfast.

We stayed in the Hotel as individuals and had a comfortable night with a King and single bed. The young Asian lady at reception was very welcoming. The heater was great and amenities completely adequate for us.
The steak meal at the restaurant was amazing with perfectly cooked quality fillet with vegetables etc. The Otago Pino wine available at this restaurant is just perfect and priced affordable.
We are repeat customers and will continue to recommend this place.

Room tip: Room 26 was great

Disappointed doesn’t begin to cover how we felt about the “Junior Suite” we booked at the Brydone Hotel for a romantic getaway. The description on the website says “The Junior Suite is the crème da le crème of our historic hotel.”

2 nights for $435.00 gave us a tiny TV that was 5-6 meters away from the bed and barely watchable, a wardrobe that was approximately 50cm wide, two old ratty armchairs, and a view of an industrial rooftop. The spa was not a corner spa as pictured, but a regular bath with spa outlets. The décor was chintzy with a floral nylon bedspread that my grandmother would be ashamed of, and the bed was not comfortable. Satellite TV = 3 channels. And when they made up our room up they just pulled up the covers and left the pillows on the floor.

The décor is tired, the carpets worn, the service mediocre and the whole experience a waste of money.

The only positive is the location of the hotel in the centre of the old town, and the beautiful architectural exterior of the building.

Room tip: Don't waste your money on a suite

Booked bed and breakfast however still charged for my breakfast. The unhelpful front counter lady said I need to take this up with the dining room staff. Crazy response especially when repeat business should be a priority.

The breakfast was anemic looking toast with cold poached eggs. The previous nights roast pork was a hacked concoction of “off bits”meat and gristle with no cracklings or apple sauce.

Not good enough

The Brydone Hotel is a lovely old hotel in the main street close to many of the beautiful old Oamaru sandstone buildings; the reason for our visit. New more modern wings have been added to the hotel over time. The room was a typical hotel room, well appointed and clean. The dining area was a beautiful room in the original part. The food and service was very good. Highly recommend.
