Empty, expired smoke alarms, tired rooms, poor service

A sorry excuse for a hotel. Rooms very tired, not the tidy fresh rooms you see in the photos. Very unclean too, hairs all throughout the bathroom, stains on the walls and floor, and a leaky shower which soaks into the bedroom floor. To make matters worse, the smoke alarm had no battery, and was 8 years expired. The lack of interest by staff was appalling, they clearly do no care for their guests. The manager himself did not take my complaints seriously, and a follow up after my stay had no response. Clearly cutting corners at the guests’ expense. Avoid this place at all costs, along with any other VR hotel properties.

THIEVES! THIEVES ! BEWARE PLEASE DON'T STAY HERE.
to make a long story short they stole our beloved clothing item , we left it by accident on the restaurant , we called and said they had it with them and could courier it and now they say they never had it with them LIARS!!!!, never in years staying anywhere I had property stolen from staff , this place is so cheap now you know why

Good points were, impeccable room recently refurbished ( or so it looked). Food was well prepared at dinner and reasonably price. Bad point was that I cancelled at short notice so automatically forfeited the one night charge. The reason for cancellation was that my daughter in Melbourne emailed to say she had just tested positive for covid, so I shouldnt stay there. However, within 1 hour she said I could stay at a neighbour’s house, so I emailed the hotel to ask if my reservation could be reinstated, but no reply. On arrival I asked if they had reinstated the booking and they said it wasnt possible and they had rented the room . However they did have another that I could pay for again, which I had no choice but to accept. If they had resold the room and also charged me they doubled their income !Strange they had a room available but only if I paid again ?? That is not the way to create goodwill and recommendations ! So I wouldnt stay there again when there are so many alternatives close by.

Smelly, beds with filty cushions and unwashed slept in sheets. Disgusting! Was offered another room which was about the same! Didn't smell as bad. Court yard outside second room was covered in bird poo run down and un kept. And no refund. Have just written off as a bad mistake and will learn from it.

This hotel made me embarrassed to be a kiwi. If you are looking for accommodation please don't stay at this hotel. Our room was dirty,there wasn't even any soap in bathroom. Container was empty. Reception was rude and not helpful. Disappointing end of a wonderful holiday in South Island.

A picture paints a 1000 words.
Absolutely nothing like it looks on the website.
The fridge leaks, the lights don't work, the cushions smell of child vomit, the bathroom vanity is not even secured to the wall.
Seriously, I would rather sleep in my car than stay here.

Room tip: Dont, you wont get one.

We are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your entire stay with us and apologise for not meeting with your expectations. All our rooms are fully serviced in line with our procedures, before being entered back into the system for check-in. Our Housekeeping Team are available from 8am to 8pm and would have been happy to assist with any concerns you may have had with the room, at the time of your stay. We have immediately reiterated the importance of ensuring that all our Room Attendants are extra vigilant when cleaning the rooms and again apologise for any lapse in our usual standard of cleanliness.
