Myself and a friend ordered the pork belly dish and the chicken dish we shared both and the flavours and textures were delicious! We were in Kaikoura during the Easter period so there was a surcharge on top of our bill that was the only down fall to our evening. The views are amazing and the staff looked after us very well I will definitely be back again!

When u walk into a restaurant and the matre’d and the 2 wait staff don’t acknowledge you for some minutes you sort of have a feeling that the service is not going to be the stand out. The food however was absolutely delicious, shared a squid entree which had just the right amount of chilli. The seafood fettuccine was full of seafood and the light creamy sauce on the home made fettuccine was lip smackingly delicious! The pan fried fish was expertly cooked and accompanied with delicious veg and root veg rosti.

We had a very enjoyable evening here in early April. Set just outside of town on the road towards the seal colony, this is a nicely relaxed restaurant that offers informal style fine dining in a nice setting that overlooks the bay. As with a lot of New Zealand’s South Island, the rush to eat dinner is an early evening thing so coming in after 7pm felt late!

Anyway, we had a lovely meal with orders of lamb and beef. Both really well cooked and seasoned, as well as being nicely presented too. The garlic bread we shared to start was a highlight too, and it was a welcome relief to find more garlic on it than butter. Service was nice and friendly too, though it seemed slightly understaffed perhaps with the young girl seemingly attending most of the tables. And an everlasting memory will be the announcement at the start ‘sorry we’re out of Lemonade’. I guess that we weren’t in London anymore...

I used to go here 20 years ago . I must say it has gotten even better than it was . Staff were very attentive and meal was awesome. Shame they had sold out of the Cider they were promoting. But I will be back next trip

I have eaten here once before and it was fantastic but on Friday night I took my parents there anticipating that they too would be blown away.
Sadly we were slightly disappointed as the menus read “crayfish” and the reality was there was none.
The waiter went into a big dialogue about the fishermen selling all the cray overseas etc so we asked why have it on the menu then? It seems they start the day optimistic that crayfish will be on the menu.
The weird thing is that the following night we went to the pub over the road from the green dolphin to find an abundance of crayfish so I then wondered if the fishing industry was boycotting the green dolphin. It was all a bit odd.
Green Dolphin has loyal staff though as they stuck to the story.
Anyway we did enjoy what we had but specifically went there for the crayfish and wouldn’t have bothered if we knew it was off the menu. So my message to them is to be more transparent with their menu removing crayfish off the menu if they are not serving it.
The sticky date and apricot pudding had been zapped for too long in the microwave and all the glutens had ceased making it tough fare.....they didn’t charge us though when we pointed this out, well it was obvious as we left it sitting on the plates.
