Pleasant- well appointed- pretty good place to stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Apr 2024
We have just completed a stay in this modern well appointed hotel. It’s good, and nice, but not perfect. We stayed in one of the front Seaview apartments at a cost of $400 a night. For that money- pretty minimalist. Nothing is much offered or given away. The hotel has no restaurant but the Encounter Cafe next door offers a wonderful breakfast. We are also bikers and while many hotels have risen to the challenge and proved good bike space, this hotel had really made no effort at all. So- it is well positioned and comfortable. Value for money- I think the jury is out actually.

Great place to stay, the view, the room, the chill of the place. The room was great really good, spa bath, 2 resting chairs , and spacious with a view to warm the cockles of any heart.

Lovely and recommend it. Staff were great and we enjoyed the stay

Room tip: Sea view suggested

We had a nice studio apartment, which was very well appointed and comfortable. It was up a flight of stairs, so tricky with heavy suitcases. The apartment was accessed via a shared walkway, so lacked privacy at times. About a 10 minute walk to the town centre and maybe another 10 to the whale watching departure point. Plenty of parking.

Everything from the reception, John and Brian! To the chambermaids that made our room absolutely 100% perfect. This hotel should be on everybody’s list. Such a bargain for the luxury and location. Out of the tourist bubble but so close to walking to everything. We had an absolutely amazing three days here.

Room tip: Absolutely do Kaikura kayaking, which is right around the corner! Being on the ocean, gives you such an amazing perspective of the wildlife!

Very comfortable seafront motel style accommodation .our standard room was clean comfortable and well equipped. But very small and with no sea view .Also not very private being on the ground floor .So I would make sure you have a room on the upper floor and maybe pay a bit more for a sea view .very nice cafe next door for breakfast.

Be warned that the ‘small studio’ advertised with ‘terrace with garden views’, in our case, actually had concrete wall views. The proprieter was apologetic and agreed we could move, but with an additional, yet reduced fee for a better room. That room had a strong chemical smell that built up during the night to the point we had to open the doors and use the extractor fan. I’m sure this isn’t normal and we had an unfortunate experience but clearly the combined issues dampened our views on the property and hence our rating.
