If you haven't visited this awesome Hotel, do so soon.
Everything was well above the service we have experienced else where.
Staff were so welcoming and the atmosphere so relaxing but sophisticated I wished we were able to stay longer.
Well be back with out a doubt.
Thank you Jen

Standard double room in the courtyard area was very cramped. Simply too small with little thought for maximising the space that was available. Small en-suite with half sized basin. Overall not as good as a UK budget hotel like the Premier Inn which is much more spacious.

Location is good with the sea just across the road. Parking free with easy access from courtyard.

Cannot recommend. The worst accommodation so far in NZ after 2 weeks. Probably between 2-3 star out of 5 star in terms of classic hotel rating system

Room tip: Avoid, there is much better in NZ

Hello. We try to fully explain the smaller dimension of our standard courtyard rooms. If you are reading this, not recommended if you have loads of luggage or for multiple nights.

Perfect if travelling light or single travellers

Mire concerned about the poor service alert! What is that about?? Love to know plese.

There's more choice of accommodation in Kaikoura these days, with the recent opening of the Sudima hotel. Nevertheless, we opted for this small but beautiful old hotel instead, forsaking swanky newness for period charm and the personal touch. We were not disappointed.

We chose a Historic Waterfront Room for our stay - and we loved it. Sometimes, rooms in older hotels like this have compromises, because they were never built to have their own bathrooms, for example. Not so here. Our lovely spacious room had an equally spacious bathroom, all beautifully and tastefully decorated with stylish quality materials. Although the weather wasn't quite warm enough to make the most our balcony, we could still enjoy the sea view from our amazingly comfortable bed.

The downstairs bar was a relaxing and friendly place to while away a little time in the afternoon over a drink. Erin, our cheerful and vivacious host, was very helpful with suggestions for dining. We were grateful also to owner Jen, who worked around our changing arrangements when Covid interfered with our original holiday dates.

Room tip: The hotel offers continental breakfast - but it's not included with all booking types. Despite what Google says. So do check!

Good/quiet location in south end of town. Short (2-3 minutes) drive to centre of town, or about 15 minute stroll. Rooms are located around a courtyard with outdoor cafe seating and table for each room. Small restaurant/bar in main building. Very helpful, pleasant staff - made arrangements for our very late arrival (after their closing), due to ferry crossing problems. Easy drive to seal colony beach hike. Would recommend staying here.

Room tip: Any/all of the rooms are quiet. Great layout around the courtyard.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on a recent trip to Kaikoura. The hotel is on the esplanade overlooking the Pacific Ocean so a beautiful setting. We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was very good. Breakfast is in the main hotel building. There is a small on-site car park. It’s a short walk to some restaurants etc.

You should be aware that the hotel is locked after 7pm and there are no staff on site. The travel agent hadn’t informed us of this nor given the hotel our contact details so we weren’t terribly popular when we arrived after 7pm following a long drive from Christchurch. Do make sure to contact the hotel if you are likely to arrive late and they will give you instructions as to how to access your room.
