This is a highly rated Trip-Advisor boutique hotel. The front room area is very attractive and doubles as a bar, which is convenient. It overlooks the sea so the view from the communal area is stunning. Excellent location too. The hostess was chatty and helpful and the garden lovely. Where this hotel falls short is in the size of the room. It was so tiny and cramped we felt suffocated. The toilet seat wasn't properly fitted on and so slid around when you sat on it! The bathroom shelf was not properly fixed to the wall and things slid off of it. Although the nature of 'boutique' is that it will be unconventional, this was just small and sloppy. Add limited wi-fi and a lack of SKY TV, and it isn't really living up to it's promise.

The Kaikoura Boutique Hotel was built long ago as a hotel and has continued on in that purpose. It is directly across from the ocean with fabulous views of the blue-green sea and the mountains to the north. The rooms are beautiful and the carpeting is plush to walk on.
Our hosts Warren, Jen, and Nickie were warm and friendly. They made sure our every need was meet and went out of their way to be sure we were comfortable.
A delicious breakfast buffet was layed out each morning: fruit, pastries, meats, breads, cereals, yoghurt, egged and beverages were available.
Just a few hours outside of Christchurch, it makes a lovely getaway for a weekend, and a very special treat for visitors traveling from abroad. We hope to have a chance to visit again someday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view. It will cost a bit more but the view is amazing!

The hotel surpassed our expectations in many ways.

Stayed in one if the courtyard units, which was comfortably appointed, with decor matching the design standards of the main building. It also included a very useful fridge and selection of wine glasses, which was a nice touch.

The hospitality was awesome from the moment we entered the reception area. Even received a complimentary glass of wine that we enjoyed in the really funky ocean-facing champagne bar/lounge area.

Lots of outdoor seating options to relax and chill, including the large courtyard area.

Breakfast was excellent with coffee from a proper espresso machine. Again, the warm and genuine hospitality was very much in evidence.

Would have extended our stay to a 2nd night if the hotel wasn’t fully booked out.

Definitely our 1st choice for future Kaikoura visits!

OMG, where do I start! Right from the get go we were welcomed warmly by the lady on reception and during our two night stay, the friendliness never ended. The staff here are amazing, especially the owner Warren, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our party of 3 couples were superbly looked after. We were in town for the Kaikoura Hop and Warren's attention to detail meant we enjoyed every part of the weekend, so much that we have booked in again for next year!
The rooms we 3 couples had were all different, and from what I can see you can choose your level of comfort through price when booking. Our room had a very comfortable Queen bed which was Room 4 looking out in to the courtyard, whereas our friends had a King bed in a room upstairs from the reception area. The rooms are very elegantly presented, very clean and comfortable. There is the forementioned courtyard available for guests use, or you can enjoy a drink in the Champagne Bar late afternoon to early evening. Breakfast was wonderful, an array of bagels and breads, ham, salmon and freshly cooked eggs. They do ask that you book in for breakfast which I think is a great idea as if everyone arrived at the same time, then they wouldn't be able to offer the same level of service they gave us. You can even have a barista coffee and the view of the beach from the venue is stunning. There is a table across the road on the grass area to sit and enjoy the evening, and the hotel is about 5 minutes walk from town. This is not a place to bring kids, which I think made the stay even better!
I cannot recommend this place enough, top notch service and I can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: For the best view, book an upstairs room, but for a quieter stay away from the road book a courtyard room.

Great little hotel on the beach. Based on the main esplanade within walking distance to the main strip of shops. Room was clean and had everything you needed. Staff were amazingly helpful and definitely worth including the brekky in your booking!
