Above and Beyond

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Mar 2024
The motel was unassuming from the street but a real gem from the moment you check in at reception. Roger, the owner, was very engaging and welcoming and showed my wife and me to our room. And fresh milk was provided for a cuppa! The room was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The king bed was comfortable, the water hot and there was Sky channel. Bonus!! Across the road was a supermarket and a servo. All this added up to better value for money than all the more expensive places we'd stayed on our road trip to date.
But the thing that went above and beyond for me was when I inadvertently left my vital medication in the room fridge. We had dropped the hire car off by the time I'd realised, and a taxi would have been needed to get back to the motel. When I contacted Roger he insisted on dropping the medication to me and wouldn't hear of me catching a taxi to collect it.
Seems nothing was too much trouble for Roger and Carol. Five stars guys!

An average motel located on Hwy 6 on the outskirts of Greymouth and our unit was the closest to the street; for this reason it was fairly noisy during the day, but fortunately not during the night. Very close to a Supermarket and the kitchen facilities were good: this made so easy to have dinner in this unit.

Many thanks for your kind review. We assume that the noise would be from the renovations take place currently. Rest assured these will be completely soon. Do you enjoy the rest of your time in New Zealand. Kind regards Roger and Carol

Light bright and clean facility where we were warmly welcomed. Located on Hwy 6 on the outskirts of Greymouth.
The motel is currently undergoing some external building works, but this did not disturb us during our stay.
A good motel for an overnight stop.

Room tip: Book in advance.

Comfortable, clean environment. Suite with kitchenette. Welcome surprise of real milk for tea. Place is about 1.6 miles outside of city center but easy to get a cab or walk. Friendly staff. Bakery across the street has both savory and sweet pastries, and makes coffees (but no decaf lattes).

Very large room with a small kitchenette. Supermarket across the street and a brewery a short walk away, what more could you want?

Monteith’s Hazy has been one of my go to beers in NZ, what better than to have a few in the brewery itself?

We ate in because the facilities in the room were so good and the access to a good supermarket was so easy.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful.

We slept like babies 👶.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and overall condition of our studio accomodation at The Alpine Rose. Our travel agent organized the booking (one of many for this extended trip) so we were not sure what to expect. We stayed one night and found the room size to be more than adequate, fully updated, bright and comfortable. There are laundry facilities on premises which were very helpful at this juncture of our journey. The owners/hosts—Carol & Roger—were very friendly, accomodating and provided great local suggestions.

Room tip: The kitchenette area was a terrific surprise.
