Great for a one-night stop over

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Sept 2020
I stayed in a motel unit for a night as a stopover on my way up the Coast. Room was comfortable, super clean, well equipped and very convenient to park the car up right outside the door.

Reasonably priced for a Saturday night at $130.

It’s a good 6km south out of town so its by no means in the midst of the action but, as a quiet stopover, it does the trick. Would stay again.

A cute wee hotel. Staff were lovely

We booked the hotel executive and it was small. The bathroom was very underwhelming - the shower was over the bath, not what I was expecting for an executive room. The bed was comfortable however the USB wall chargers didn’t work. Also the mini bar was lack lustre and had cheap crockery.

Nice wee stay but not worth the price tag

Dear missbritt2015,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and your positive comments relating to our staff and will be sure to pass on your comments. We will be investigating the USB wall chargers as to why these were not working correctly. We will also be looking into the crockery supplied in room and be looking to make changes to our supply. Thank you for your feedback and we wish you all the best on your onward travels.

I found it odd (as an American) that a business hotel like this has no air conditioning in the guest rooms. When we checked in, room was very warm and while no a/c they offered a fan. Kind of 1960’s.

Breakfast ladies were the best part of the hotel, they were friendly and welcoming. Front desk young gals kind of officious and off-putting. Housekeeper’s were great, too.

Kind of an out of the way location but overall OK, if somewhat dated property. Front appearance really bland. Bathroom tub needs some work.

Travelling from Nelson towards Franz Josef, Greymouth seems a popular stop over. Ashley Hotel is outside the town. The beach is 10 minutes walk. There is an airstrip nearby and the train passes outside. So far there is no action on either. There is a station not far away in town.
There is a restaurant in the hotel for dinner and breakfast. We ate there (risotto and burger) both very good. The rooms were clean. No aircon. Fan provided. No safe. Mini bar/ fridge (nothing in it). Coffee/tea in room.

I stayed for 2 nights while away for work. I stayed in the hotel part rather than in a motel unit so can’t comment on those units. My room was clean and reasonably comfortable but I have a few gripes which distinguishes it from other accommodation providers of similar level in which I have stayed in the region. There is no air conditioning so the room can get very warm and though one window could open a bit it wasn’t sufficient to cool when the weather was warm. There was a fan that I found in a cupboard, but it is a poor alternative. The TV was a reasonable size but the channels were limited and not good picture quality so I ended up watching something on my iPad. The wi fi is free but is variable in speed, so many times my internet activity was interrupted and stopped altogether. When you’re away working, that is very frustrating. My room was on a corridor where you could hear any sounds people made along it, including talking, sometimes loudly at night, and the doors are self closing so always slam. I was woken at 4.45am by a slammed door, not very conducive to a quiet restful stay. The bathroom was clean but very dated and pretty small. There was a worn looking bath with shower over. The toiletries provided were plentiful and smelled nice. I didn’t eat at the hotel at all, but my colleague said the meal she ordered from room service (steak with truffle mash) was top notch and cooked perfectly to her liking as requested.

Dear jackih192,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we appreciate your positive comments relating to our room cleanliness, toiletries and your colleagues room service meal. Please note all of our rooms do not come with air-conditioning. We will be working with our Wi-Fi supplier to eliminate such issues you found, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. We do regret the noise made by neighboring guests and would like to recommend our motel units for your next stay. Once again thank you for your feedback and we wish you all the best on your onward travels.
