Speight's Ale House prooves that hands on management leads to perfection. We had a miserable day in Greymouth due to bad weather conditions. I must say that the town looks very gray in a day like this. I rarely drink, if it wasn't for the look of it, I wouldn't choose this place for lunch. But amongst every old looking building of Greymouth, this place shines. It has a good vibe, so entered. What do you expect from pub food? We'll, not this. To be on the safe side I ordered the wedges. What came was perfection. Spiced, crispy on the outside, soft inside potatoes mixed with melted cheese and salty bacon. Second food we got was grilled fish -which was on the black board. I don't have the words to explain my joy. That was a real fresh fish, cooked by someone who really knew what they were doing. Light, you get that distinct fish flavour and spiced kumara underlines it. Also, the manager is pretty good. The moment we entered he informed us about the black board. (We might not have seen it.) Since he was around all the time, all the waiting stuff were working very hard to keep everything clean, everybody was fast, their mind were on their job. You see that it takes a lot to keep this place as it is. Kudos.
