We enjoyed our visit to the Speights Ale House though the wait for food was particularly long with the restaurant not that busy and children waiting an excessive amount of time. Great wine selection and of course the beers were plentiful.

We had a family meal with our two boys. Service was prompt, it's all brand spanking new and the fit out is very classy. Only comment I'd make was the kids menu is typically rubbish, and they might as well have gone to McDonalds. I.e, Chicken nuggets in a a sea of chips, mini hot dogs in a sea of chips etc. From memory only one of the kids options was reasonable being chicken with seasonal veges.

My steak sandwich was average, cooked well done without being asked how I'd like it. My wife thought the chowder was good.

Highlight was the Speights IPA

Ice cold Speight’s served as it should be, Distinction Ale! Yummo. The beer menu has a porter as Non applicable slightly odd for a Sepight’s pub. The bar staff are friendly and helpful.

Service is important and being prepared to Service customers is key, unfortunately on our visit they where not particularly up to par!

Overall the beers Speights, but the bar management need to up their game, for a destination pub that has a train arrive on its door step with international visitors to NZ it’s disappointing to see a few extra staff have not been put on to “serve” the customers.

Both Speights display cabinets in the entrance lay empty. :-(

This is a lovely restaurant, bright with good décor, friendly staff, great food at reasonable prices and nice and cosy especially on a cold wet night that we encountered. Good overall experience.
