Rang and made a reservation for what is advertised as a licensed restaurant. Arrived and was asked what we wanted to drink before we even sat down only to find out they are not currently licensed but should be in a few weeks. Ordered a lemonade and a girl came over reached in front of us and poured water but didn't acknowledge or greet us. Cancelled our lemonade, advised we were wanting a licensed restaurant and left. Had we been told when reserving a table that they were not licensed we would have not gone. Had the staff been more welcoming and attentive we would have stayed on for the meal and been accepted the no license.

Back in Whangarei after two years. This time we opted for takeaways and selected two medium trays for$12.50 each for smorgasbord. About a dozen options. Plenty to yum about! Very filling. Pleasant service. Thanks.

You can leave your car in either the Countdown or New World supermarkets and grab a Chinese meal just across the road. How easy is that !! Anyhow, my wife and I were delighted to find that the Tai Tong serves Yum Char at lunchtime on Saturdays and Sundays, something we didn't think would be available in Whangarei. The selection of Chinese dumplings and other little yum char snacks was relatively small but quite adequate and I'm afraid we pigged out. The staff were extremely attentive and very pleasant. I haven't had an opportunity to try this restaurant's regular a la carte menu as yet but hope to do so in future.
