Thanks Jackie for a lovely stay.
Our Riverview Room was well appointed with our own ensuite.
We felt most welcome and really appreciated our late check out.
We knew the house was older, but very well loved, therefore we expected a few interesting characteristics.
Jackie has fabulous local knowledge and happy to advise on activities and eateries.
Thanks Jackie for a lovely stay.

the hotel has only 3 or 4 rooms.
Good things: room was big and clean. breakfast was simple but fresh. There is a cute dog living in the house (but people with an allergy should be aware of dog). Beautiful view from the living room
Bad things: house is old and floor makes a lot of noise. Room with river view actually does not have any river view.

Room Tip: all rooms seams nice

well it was this time last year and I found it by accident.. loved calling it a home from home as I explored Whangarei region which btw is endlessly fascinating.. I could easily live there! My mission is to explore corners of NZ a month at a time. This month was just terrific and I hope to get back..

Room Tip: I was happy with the room off the lounge

The building itself is an old 'heritage' type bungalow up a steep driveway off the main road to Whangarei Heads.
There's enough parking for 3 or 4 cars ( with a squeeze).
There are to my knowledge 3 guest rooms, two are self contained bedrooms en suite and the third ( single) is a bed in the old dining room off the 'lounge) which we were told by Jacqui to use but not too late as it may disturb the person in the adjacent single room connected by a simple sliding door!
There are two main bedrooms, one at the front overlooking the flat roofs of an industrial estate ( as per another reviewers comments!) and the other at the side overlooking the steep sides of the garden.
There was also a Woofer staying on the property sleeping who knows where and doing the slave bit in the very sloping scrub and tree gardens....
The side room was comfortable but cluttered, a fridge in a cupboard, a mini hifi, a kettle, toaster plus all the dishes, a small table and two chairs plus a reclining chair and foot stool!
The bathroom was fine with a great shower and even a bidet, towels were clean as was the bedding etc
So, breakfast was to be taken in the bedroom, most unusual as even in Backpackers there's a kitchen! The food provided e.g. Cereal, yoghurt, fruit, tea and coffee were fine and were renewed upon written request for our second morning.
Overall not a great experience, Jacqui told us on arrival ( holding her hairy dog) that she had to pay her mortgage and that was the reason she was doing the letting. The price was high for the property and we expected better.
Letting your spare capacity of your house is fine but packing them in to the detriment of guests with slightly misleading descriptions on line of what the guests receive will turn out poorly for the proprietor in the end!
I cannot understand other reviews who rate this with 5*.
