This has to be the greatest small museum in NZ. Quirky and fascinating. Excellent value. If you are in the area, go and spend some time there, you won't regret a second of it.
We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. We were given an intro brief which was fantastic - we aren't normally too interested in these but it was worthwhile. We spent about an hour looking at all the clocks and reminiscing over childhood clocks
A fine history of time pieces. Friendly staff provided an introduction and demonstration. Particularly liked the two mirror clocks, his and hers pictures with moving eyes, there is a story to those... And checkout the hickory linear clock with the mouse as a pointer.
Our family, including grand-kids 6 and 8, really enjoyed this museum. The tour guide was very informative and interesting. Every kind of clock you can imagine can be found here.
After the most courteous of welcomes at reception, we were shown round this clock museum by "Jenny".
Our guide was most skilled in imparting just enough information and activating a number of clocks to hold our interest and attention. Nothing worse than too much information. Jenny got it just right.
For us older ones, it was a trip down memory land with many a "I remember ..... "
Fascinating stuff and an insight into the patience and precision that lies behind horlology.
Well worth a visit. I intend to return.
Friendly staff and most interesting artefacts. A real journey back in time with all manner of beautiful items. Quiz sheet available for the young ones to find various important clocks. Guided tours occur regularly, video and information boards. Small gift shop. It's not huge but much to see and wonder at.
