Flying Fox is a great accommodation stop. To get to it you put a couple of you and bags ithe the Flying fox to cross the Whanganui river. Getting great view s both ways. Once there the accommodation is dreamy.in an almost tropial garden with walnuts avocados and citrus it is very relaxing. Great friendly couple run it. WiFi available and some shop supplies to do some self catering also available

We stayed here as a large group of 11 whilst mountain biking the Mountain to Sea trail. It was a perfect stop over that added to our adventure. The cableway offers fantastic views whilst traversing over the river and is an awesome way to gain entry to the property I highly recommend this. The food provided by Jan and Kelly was wonderful. Thank you Flying Fox

From the moment of arrival to the time of departure this place captivates the imagination.
We arrived by bicycles down a steep drive to a small shed and landing where a cable stretched across the river.
There is a gong and an intercom. A voice gives instruction and a cable car arrives from the other side.
We crossed the river two at a time and met the hosts.
As they explained the layout of the place and the do's and don't's the unique character of the place constantly interrupted their welcome.
Every aspect of the place demands attention.
From the smallest detail such as the paua shell inlay over the bathroom door to the outstanding record collection. Yes Vinyl and lots of it.
Then there is the garden. The meals. The ambience. Or maybe just sit out side and watch the river go by.This place would be ideal in any season.
I dare anyone to find fault with the Flying Fox

This place is simply amazing, from the moment you get out of your car! Unlike anywhere I have stayed around the world! Excellent hosts who are friendly and very accommodating. The food was fantastic and the location breath taking! We didn't have a lot of time so only stayed over night but already we are looking at dates to go back. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful and relaxing time away! We will be back, thanks Kelly and Jane you guys rock!

Our group stayed here on our cycle trip from Ohakune to Whanganui. We had been a bit underwhelmed by the levels of hospitality at some of our other accommodation on the ride. This was a completely different experience and we were won over by its charm and originality, and the hospitality. From the cable car ride over the river to the style of the cottages, the garden setting and personal touches, we were charmed and delighted. Lovely home cooking, very accommodating hosts; a unique experience for any traveler to this remote part of new Zealand. Highly recommended.
