We took the jet boat to the bridge to no where and had the jet boat pilot drop us at the lodge for 1 night. Our room opened up to the deck. Shared bath rooms but they were never crowded nor was there a wait. Dinner was basic buffet ham chicken bread salad. It is not an all you can eat. But there was enough food for a decent meal. Breakfast was bad. Just dry cereal milk and a small yogurt container. If the other travelers are loud you may need ear plugs to get to sleep early. But that’s traveling so not really a downside. The breakfast was really the down grade here.

My partner and I are walking the Te Araroa trail this summer. Last week while canoeing the Whanganui River Matt suspected he broke his foot. We kayaked for two days and reached the lodge. When we arrived I walked up to the lodge to ask to call Taumarunui Canoe Hire (also an incredibly helpful and generous company). Not only did Joe call TCH, he organised and drove the jet boat to get us to Pipiriki that night, Mandy offered a vehicle to get us to Whanganui hospital and made sure we were fed and watered, Shareese made a delicious banana chocolate muffin, Darryl transported us and our stuff around the property on the quad bike and Matt (their Matt) dropped the vehicle off to us. All of the staff went above and so far beyond to help us. I felt at home standing in their kitchen and a little overwhelmed saying goodbye. We're incredibly grateful for what they did for us that afternoon and they expected so little in return. We can only promise to pass on your kindness and generosity to someone else in need. Mandy - I'll give you a bell this week to let you know how Matt is. Thank you again, arohanui, Sarah.

Hi There Sarah

Thanks for your lovely review. I'm glad that it all worked out so easily with getting Matt to Wanganui Hospital and that his foot is doing ok.

My daughter Kayla was the ED nurse at reception when you arrived at the hospital so you got to meet her as well. Not sure if my other daughter Sasha x-rayed Matt. There are a lot of us around! Anyway as long as you are both ok that is the main thing.

Hope you manage to get back up here some day it was great meeting you! Keep in touch as we are all keen to know how Matt is doing! Just email me, our address is on our website!

Safe travels Mandy :)

I understand that the location is remote, and that travellers may have been on the river for days. While the camp sites were ok, the toilets and showers were disgusting. A lady from another group commented that they had to remove cobwebs and spiders from one of the toilets, which hadn't seen a cleaner in quite a while. The showers were mouldy from the curtains to the walls, and again they hadn't seen a cleaner for a while. The website says facilities serviced daily, but that was definitely not the case. The only consolation was the reasonably priced cold beer we were able to buy at the Lodge.

We were an extended family gathering of 11 , wanting to have a fun adventure for Christmas, we were not disappointed , Despite the difficulty organising our trip over the Christmas period Joe and Mandy were fantastic, and very hepful.
The Lodge was clean, homely and welcoming with plenty of space for us all. The weather was not on our side so plans changed but this was not a problem : Joe and his wonderful staff guided us through this. The Wanganui river is a unique and beautiful place to explore including jet boats, canoes and mountain biking .Thank you

Awesome family trip. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food was great. Amazing views of the river and surrounding hills from the dinning room and front deck. The jet boat ride up the river was a great experience and staff have good knowledge of the points of interest and the history of the river and bridge. The walk into Bridge to Nowhere is easy for average fitness. Beautiful native bush / trees, well sign posted and with information boards.

Room tip: Rooms on the northern side have access out onto the deck.
