I have been visiting Bunbury for 30 years and one of the iconic buildings was the catholic cathedral. It was historic and a great example of the architecture at the time. Unfortunately it has been redeveloped and now looks and feels like just another building. The church service gave the impression of someone going through the motions rather than being delivered by a priest who was relly passionate about his religion. It is now just another church.

This building replaced the old Cathedral that was damaged by tornado in 2005. It's functional, contemporary, bright, has beautiful window panels, comfortable pews and very good acoustics for the sound system. However, at times it seems somewhat sterile, lacking the warmth and familiarity of the previous building. The complex certainly is larger in area and offers facilities not available prior to 2005. Over the years, congregations have diminished in numbers with a noticeable reduction in 'younger' attendees. The Cathedral is a place to visit, worship and meditate; the challenge facing the clergy is to make it a building of relevance to a greater community.

St Patricks Cathedral undertook a complete rebuild after a cyclone made the building unsafe and it was demolished
The new one is somewhat contempory in design
The Windows are painted in lovely scenes by one of Australias famous artists and worth a visit to see especially when the sun is shinning behind the windows

The new cathedral has been tastefully done with impressive aboriginal and Australian art. Take time to view the detail of the unique painted glass windows.
The 2 side altars are peaceful and reverent.
A wonderful centrepiece in the region for the Catholic Church.
