There is not a single nice thing that can be said about the hideous Redan Apartments. All the booking sites should remove any opportunity to book this hell hole. Filthy, smelly, rundown and vile...that's me being polite.

Room Tip: Don't even consider this place.

Filthy room overall. Smoke alarm hanging from ceiling. kitchen cupboards broken & falling apart, water damage in all cabinetry, Couldn't use ceiling fan due to all the dust, flies were everywhere as no screens on window, toilet was just filthy, No shower screen in use,

Room Tip: DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, Trip Advisor should not have this crappy filthy place on their list. I have contacted Vic EPA Department.

Worst place I have ever stayed in. Carpet was dirty and smelly, limited items in kitchen, scratched bent saucepan , I cup , 1 plate , nothing to wash dishes (not that we ate in here) had 1 towel for 2 of us to share and had to use my beach towel. Had someone screaming and try to bash the door in , in the middle of the night. Rude unwelcoming receptionist. Payed for 2 nights but ended up crashing at a friends the second night.

Hotel was at a backpacker standard. Dirty, damaged and old. Poor customer service. Reception was unorganized and rude. Not very helpful. Poor heating and cooling. Drug addicts sitting out the front to annoy you.

On entering our room (no. 24) we encountered the following:

1. A massive penis had been spray painted in white on the carpet in the 'living' part of the room, taking up most of the floor space.
2. There was only one mug, a couple of plates and no cutlery, including no complementary milk in the fridge, the microwave was filthy with baked on food stuck on the interior walls, and there was no rubbish bin.
3. The entire room and en-suite bathroom were filthy, there was mould on the walls in both areas of this 'unit', dust, and the carpet was sticky. The bathroom was worse, with the shower stall unusable due to the slime.
4. The wardrobe doors were off their track, and posed a danger of falling out, and as there was a mirror inset in each door, posed a danger of glass cuts.
5. The range hood and microwave were not working (at least the stainless steel sink next to the microwave looked cleanish and had hot water), the general area around the living area sink was dusty
6. A large hole had been cut into the fly wire screen over the table.
7. Toilet seat was unusable without putting toilet paper on it first so that one could sit on it with a degree of cleanliness because it was filthy, but, there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, the cracks in the seat were ingrained with dirt, and the toilet bowl smelt, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a very long time.
8. The bathroom sink, once again was filthy, but did not have a hot water tap at all!! The cold water tap was nearly unusable as it was very nearly unscrewed and falling out of the sink.
9. On turning to the shower stall, we found that there was yet another giant penis spray painted on the door, and filth in the stall: in the grout, on the walls and on the floor tiles meant that we would not be using the facility, however, we wouldn't have been able to anyway because the shower arm and rose were hanging limply down the wall and would not work. There was evidence of water leaks in the bathroom and on the walls in the living area as well.
10. There was a gap in an external wall that had been plugged with paper towel or similar.
11. On pulling the blind down when we went to 'bed', graffiti had been spray painted on it saying the following (please excuse the language): "This @$&* of a place &%#!@$ stinks". Well I have to say, I agree, but it is not a nice thing to read.

MAJOR PROBLEMS

12. Mr A received an electrical shock strong enough to throw him back on the bed, and take a few minutes to recover himself. He did not receive burns, but he did suffer shock, after 'tingles', and was most upset. The plug had no actual switch on one side, just a space, and as it is in a dark place on the wall under the microwave was hard to see, and truthfully, who would expect faulty electricals in a supposedly regulated hospitality provider?
13. The smoke detector did not have a battery, and has hung decoratively over the existing light fitting.
14. Used syringe and wipes packets were found in the top drawer of the bedside table.

We went to reception to complain, get a refund and leave, but reception was locked shut. As we had no-where to go, and it was 10:30 p.m. or just after, we went to our van and brought our own pillows, sheet (it was a warm night, so we did not change out of our day clothes, and slept on our sheet that we put on top of the bed), alcoholic hand wash, towels and thermos of hot water that we had boiled earlier in the day, to make a cup of tea in our own cups , and camped on the bed that we had covered with our sheet, and had a quick sponge bath in the stainless steel sink.
