2 beautiful cottages in idyllic surroundings. The cottages are very clean, well equipped with a thoughtful breakfast hamper including a bottle of wine. Very friendly, helpful owners. Great pied-à-terre when enjoying the bountiful offerings of the Hunter Valley!
This was my first visit to the Hunter Valley and unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The North Lodge Cottages, though, exceeded my expectations.
The cottage was easy enough to locate and seemed to be in a reasonable location for anything in the Hunter Valley We were two solo travellers who stayed in the Highland Cottage. the cottage was spotlessly clean, had two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one bathroom had a spa), well equipped kitchen with ingredients left for a full breakfast - cereals, bread, bacon, eggs, milk, orange juice and to top it all off, a complimentary bottle of wine. This was a very pleasant surprise.
We had a bit of an issue with the hot water in one of the bathrooms but the staff were able to attend to this immediately, even though there are no staff on site. Their responses were extremely prompt and always pleasant.
We stayed in the 'clan' cottage which had a lovely wrap around verandah and was much larger than we had expected. The location is stunning, with beautiful views of the mountains, olive trees and a valley. It is also on the same road as a number of wineries. The owners, Kevin and Frances, were very accommodating, friendly and easy to chat with but still allowed for lots of privacy. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, it felt like a home. One highlight was the lovely fireplace that the owners set up for us to light. It kept the whole cabin warm on the cool July evening. We were impressed with the kitchen set up and the breakfast, which you cook at your leisure in the morning (eggs, milk, bread, juice). This was a lovely place to return to after a day of wine tasting! I recommend staying for at least two days.
We have just returned from these beautiful cottages.
2 days went soooo quickly as the environment is tranquil and serene and views and breezes from the mountains were simply fabulous.
The privacy was just what were looking for and certainly exceeded our expectations.
The attention to detail, and cleanliness is indeed a credit to the owners Frances and Kevin. EXCEPTIONALLY high standard !!
The cottage are so close to everything and yet it felt like a million miles from the hustle and bustle.
Beautiful verandahs all the way round each cottage to enjoy the scenery even to sit when raining, walks to the dams and around the property to catch glimpses of the wallabies grazing, neatly mown lawns, whisper quite location and lots of space.
The interior was immaculate - with a fridge stocked with great breakfast provisions and the lounge and bedroom area overlooking the property. The atmosphere in the cottage was so warm and inviting with everything that you could possibly want.
There is so many more things we could say as these are just a few ........truely a great find!!.
The Hosts Frances and Kevin are a most welcoming and a delightful couple.
We certainly will be back..........and hopefully for a little longer next time to really soak in the atmosphere and explore the wineries and restaurants nearby.
The owners had rung us the day before to tell us they wouldn't be there during our 2 day stay . The key was easy to go find and the 2 bedroom cottage with a spa was perfect . It had gorgeous balcony views over the acreage. Breakfast was provided on the fridge . It was close to all the vineyards . We were lucky with the weather but wondered what it would be like on the winter as the roof was corrugated iron . It was perfect for our weekend away
