I had the pleasure to stay at Radfords on the Lake for 2 nights, and highly recommended it
First of all, the location is excellent, in central Te Anau, with a view over the lake
The surroundings are really beautiful, and I would suggest staying a day more than what one would have planned for Milford Sound to be able to explore the surroundings
Then, the accommodation by itself is really good, it's not a hotel room, but actually a small apartment, with a kitchenette so you can cook (with induction plates, microwave, toaster...), and even including a dish washer
There's also a washing machine that is free to use in the shared laundry room, with echo friendly laundry powder provided too (and a dryer for just 2 NZD, coins needed)
The apartments are very comfortable, stylish & modern (there's even a heating above your head, first time I see that, very efficient)
There's a free parking dedicated to their guests right in front
Mountain bikes can be borrowed free of charge (upon availability indeed)
A breakfast can be ordered, one that is both substantial & healthy, with fruits (I had kiwi, orange & grape), toasts, butter, jam, muesli, yogurt, chocolate, milk, fruit juice (that come on top of the coffee/tea/chocolate powder that are offered to everyone)
And the last but not the least, the team in charge: It's a multi-generational family business, and I got to meet Kerri, who's extremely friendly, smiling, and flexible. She also loves to give recommendations for places to eat at, things to do, etc. And that is thanks to her that I learned about & got to watch 'Ata Whenua - Shadowland' (Fiordland on Film), an award-winning documentary showing the area from above (from an helicopter), and the reason why Fiordland Cinema (movie theater) was built in town as I was told by its owner
Oh and when talking about the team I shouldn't forget to mention Dexter the cat, who was there to welcome me late at night :D Such a lovely one
I warmly recommend Radfords on the Lake!
