Review of Alpenhorn Motel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Feb 2017
I chose this motel based on the good reviews on tripadvisor, although the photos made me a little unsure of my choice. I'm so glad I did as it was a really lovely room and I think that the photos don't do it justice. It is older in style but this gave it a certain charm as it was very well maintained, well planned, comfortable and spacious. I liked that the entrance was through the kitchen and that there was another door into the sleeping/living room. This area was well laid out with comfy chairs and coffee table, dining table and chairs as well as the sleeping area. There were patio doors at the back which led out into the garden with a table and chairs, which we appreciated as we had a lovely sunny evening when we were there.

Tony, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. He took an interest in our plans and gave us all the information that he thought we would need, which was great. The location was also very convenient as it was just a short walk to the lake or into the town centre. We very much enjoyed our stay here.

The Alpenhorn is a great place to stay in Te Anau, very close to the main street and the lake side, with friendly and accomodating owners, very reasonable prices and clean rooms. They also let us use their BBQ as we were tired from our trip and didn't fancy going out. Couldn't recommend it more.

No fuss motel which was just what we needed. Rooms were clean, tidy and well maintained. Older style but well kept which was great. It was quiet but only a short walk to town which was handy. Thermostat worked well which kept our room warm and toasty. Kitchenette was just what we needed to get breakfast going. Beds were comfortable and clean. There's UNLIMITED free wifi which was fast which was handy when keeping track of our itinerary and family back home. This is also really hand with two teenage children in tow. Tony & Denise were helpful and friendly including their cute little dog!

This motel has everything to be a nice and pleasant motel : simple, but clean, with a small kitchen, a little piece of garden on the front, a really nice welcoming from the owner etc.
Our only and small black spot was the cleaning : no cleaning at all has be done during our stay. It was written that beds were not done, or that towels were not changed if not asked for green reasons, and that's really fine. But a little bit a vacuuming would have been appreciated, or it would have been nice to avoid to put the clean dishes drying in the sink with the dirty dishes...

We stayed here for two nights, and used it as our jump-off point for Milford Sound. Tony and Denise were very helpful in booking our Milford Sound cruise, and recommended a time to go. The kitchenette was functional, we used it to cook our dinner that we bought at a nearby grocery store. Would definitely recommend.

Booking - it was a breeze booking for the room on the website.
Location - a short walk away from the lake and city centre, very centrally located. we loved the walk through the park to the city centre.
Rooms - very clean and simple. just enough for what we need to stay two nights on our trip to the fiordlands.
Service - tony and his team were extremely lovely folks who welcomed us.

overall a very pleasant stay! can't wait to be back :)
