We visited Doubtful Sound and had a night on the Fiordland Navigator which I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. The 2 days were very well organised from the coach pick-up at 11.30 am, then the boat across Lake Manapouri, next the coach across Wilmot Pass and then the cruise down Doubtful Sound on the Fiordland Navigator. The boat is very impressive,- the public areas are large and although there are 70 passengers on board it doesn't seem cramped. Our cabin, number 2 was well spec'ed, a comfortable bed and a small bathroom but everything you needed. As we left the jetty a pod of dolphins appeared,- what a start! The weather was amazing and the scenery jaw dropping. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were all energetic and informative, especially the nature guide and Catherine. We really enjoyed this cruise and would recommend it to anyone visiting New Zealand.

One of the most pleasurable and memorable days in NZ. We travelled with Go Orange who were fantastic.

The Southern Surprise comfortably sleeps ten and a crew of just two, Jason and Rachel, did a remarkable job of keeping us well fed, informed and entertained despite some rainy weather. After a lobster lunch, we enjoyed beautiful misty views of the sound, with staggering cliffs covered in sculptural mountain beech and ferns, and dozens of waterfalls along the way. When the rain subsided, Jason brought out the fishing poles and even those of us who’d never caught a fish did so within minutes, merely by dropping our lines till they hit bottom. The blue cod was expertly fileted and fried by Rachel for appetizers, before a hearty and delicious dinner buffet. The boat is BYOB and guests from around the world brought wine and shared lively conversation. We’d been told Doubtful Sound is the less crowded but as-beautiful alternative to Milford Sound, and on most of this trip it seemed ours was the only boat on the sound. A lovely, peaceful and fun excursion.

We had such an amazing experience with Clint and his crew on the MV Southern Secret. It was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. The food was great, he and Anna were fantastic hosts, the boat was very comfortable and the scenery was amazing. It was so nice to be on a smaller overnight boat with fewer people than the other option available in Doubtful Sound. We saw penguins, trapped lobster and were very lucky and had dolphins swim along the side of the boat with us. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Lovely trip as we went on an organised coach trip...drive there was really nice and interesting, but although boat trip nice, very touristy to the point of following one boat after another in a way spoiling the effect of tranquility, a case of tourist overkill unfortunately.

We saw some seals resting on a rock bank and the trench from the waterfall was fun, we went to the underwater observatory on the edge of the sound, to be honest wasn't worth the visit really, tiny observatory and although interesting in some respect took only about 1/2 hour to see really then ready to go on boat.

Overall sound worth a visit and maybe a boat trip, but don't expect it to be tranquil, we went in Autumn, do dread to think what it's like in peak time
