We went on an overnight cruise with Real Journeys. From the start everything was well organised. The journey there is long but interesting - across Lake Manapouri and then a bus ride across the Wilmot Pass before reaching the Sound. The boat was good, very clean and the cabins were a good size for one night with a clean bathroom and fluffy towels. Our guide, Carol, was excellent and the chef, Stefan, catered well for my egg allergy. The food was good and catered for all diets including vegan. The weather wasn't wonderful but this is quite usual. Dropping anchor in a quiet bay the boat hardly moved at night and the usual "rocking to sleep" was, surprising, lacking (shame - i was quite looking forward to this!). After breakfast we travelled to a very peaceful area and, with the engines stopped and requests for no talking or even camera noises, we just stopped and listened to the pure sounds of nature - beautiful and quite awe-inspiring.
Doubtful Sound is certainly quieter and less busy than the better-known Milford Sound and we saw only one other small cruise ship the whole time we were there. A highly recommended trip!More
