Skip the rings hype and head to real beauty. This is a world heritage site for very good reason. One of the boat tours provides an expanded perspective

Milford Sound and the Fiordland National Park exceeded my expectations. I suggest taking a tour because the roads are very dangerous- an experienced driver means you’re safe to relax and enjoy the scenes and they know all the secret places to stop for the most breath taking sights. For a cruise- try going for a smaller company for a less crowded cruise. We did the Extraordinare cruise and we had so much room and freedom on the nice boat!

We a group of six friends happened to cross Te Wahipounamu ( Means The Place of Green Stones)which is southwest of New Zealands World Heritage Area. It is one of the greatest wilderness area of Southern Hemisphere with snow capped mountains, rivers, deep lakes and unbroken forests.

We took a short break near the waters. There are rest rooms and resting places all along the highway. We were going to Franz Glacier along the highway.

We spent 3 days in and near Fiordland National Park in early May. We did a one day guided tour from Te Anau to Milford Sound together with a two hour cruise on Milford Sound. We only saw a small part of the National Park but it was enough to know why it is one of New Zealands National Treasures.

We visited the Fiords on a Celebrity cruise. Luckily we had a nice sunny day, not too windy, so we could spend a lot of time outdoors. Simply breathtaking sailing through the cliffs with the glaciers and the snow on the mountaintops. If I ever get to New Zealand again, will definitely visit again.
