We traveled through Milford Sound Scenic Flights.
We were collected at the hotel by a cab in the morning as part of the trip. Grant took us in the small plane to Milford. It was awe inspiring, the snow covered peaks are as far as the eye can see and in the clean New Zealand air that is a long way. Grant's Kiwi wit was just what was needed to keep us calm during the few small bumps as we passed the mountain ridges into the Tasman sea before turning and flying up the sound to Milford.
There we transferred to the boat for a leisurely trip around the sound. It is almost impossible to get a perspective of the size of the mountains as you cruise under the waterfalls, and observe the fur seals on the rocks.
From the boat we transferred to the helicopter and flew to Glenorchy. This was a real highlight the flight was amazing going up and over snow covered ridges and then landing on the snow, before landing in Glenorchy.
We were picked up at the air strip and taken to the Dart river jet boat head quarters. The jet boat ride was great fun and the interaction with the driver was great, stopping to allow some great pictures on the river or turning an 360 with the boat.
The next part of the trip was a walk in the forest with Blair, who explained the forest regeneration plan, how the area had been used for movies including Lord of the rings and the Hobbit. Blair was a great host who backed us up the extra half mile to give us the best experience of the lake and mountains possible.
The fly, cruise, heli, jet boat trip was an experience of a lifetime.
