Milford Sound Fly - Cruise - Fly
Reviewed 16 February 2014

The flight to Milford Sound is fantastic. Amazing scenery that I have never seen before. Our pilot, Matt, was as great a tour guide as he was a pilot. The boat ride on the Sound was breathtaking. We were able to get really close to a huge waterfall. The boat left from the dock that was only a short walk from the plane landing area. I totally recommend this activity.

Milford Sound is amazing. A must see if you are blessed by decent weather as we were. Our party of four used Southern Alps Air flying out of Wanaka (book at the tourist place in the main street). This involves an incredible scenic flight cross the alps and then a cruise of the Sound itself. It's not cheap but it's seriously fantastic. The scenery is truly amazing. New Zealand really is the most naturally beautiful place in the world. The event was very well managed and conducted. The only variable is the weather and no one can control that. If you get nice weather and you can afford it, definitely do it.

Milford Sound, a place Rudyard Kipling called "The Eigth Wonder of the World"

Flying to Milford Sound is a hit or miss situation. You get a call about 30 minutes before your flight time to say go or no-go for the day. Lucky for us it was a go. We were picked up and driven to the airport to board our very small plane to fly to Milford Sound.

Now the scary part is how close you are to the mountains you are... but everything is just so beautiful it becomes a second thought. Once you land you are bused to the ship that will take you on a cruise through the fiord. The mountains are tall standing up from the sea and there are beautiful waterfalls that you can almost reach out and touch. We flew back to Queenstown and the return was not so scary but just as beautiful.

This is such a memorable trip not to be missed!

On the sunniest of days, this flight over the Southern Alps and Fiordland has to be experienced to be believed! It costs a bit but well, well worth it. It IS a tiny plane; the pilot wasn't joking when he asked who wanted to co-pilot....You do experience some 'turbulence' due to the size of the plane and it's not for the faint-hearted BUT the views are amazing and I was very pleased to have done it. Enjoy the courtesy taxi back into Queenstown and have a very large glass of wine afterwards|!

We have traveled the world, Milford Sound on the south island of New Zealand is the best place. The flowers and palms this time of year look and smell wonderful! In the gift shop we purchased sixty dollars worth of package seeds approved to bring home to Florida but after clearing customs the US Agriculture took them away so save your money don't buy them.
Food is triple the price than America and even more expensive in Australia. When looking for lodging I booked with Hotels.com and we stayed a month only in rooms that had kitchenettes so we bought groceries and ate in saving considerable amounts. The water you can drink from the tap it's glacier water better than bottled. Everyone is helpful and the birds sing 24x7. It's summer now and gets light at 5am and dark at 10:30pm. Bring hiking boots because there is lots of walking. Everywhere is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! The beauty is like Costa Rica on steriods!
