We had our "fly-cruise-fly" experience leaving from Queenstown using Air Milford. We had originally booked our flight with another air carrier who had cancelled two days in a row because of weather and wind at Milford Sound. With only one more day left on our trip, we awoke to a beautiful sunny day and high hopes. We found out that Air Milford was the ONLY plane flying that day because they have a larger aircraft than anyone else and can handle the winds over the mountains. We luckily got booked with them and had a phenomenal flight over the mountains and a sunny cruise in Milford Sound. Doesn't get better than that! Driving there would have taken 10 hours round trip from Queenstown, so we were very lucky that we were able to do the "fly-cruise-fly" option. Views you wouldn't believe!

We took a bus from Queenstown to Milford Sound and spent the night on the Mariner. While it was a very long bus ride close to 7 hours the scenery and the stops were great. The boat experience was fine and the scenery again beautiful. We boarded at 4PM and set out through the Fiords. We watched the sun set while having dinner. The stars come out and were stunning. After spending the night we watched the sun rise and it was majestic. The rooms are spartan but the nature experience was great. The naturalists were very knowledgable. We did fly back to Queensland and would recommend that.
