We had a nice paddle despite the bad weather. Great guide and the company does a good job providing you with the clothes necessary to stay comfortable. I agree with the other reviewer that you should come prepared for the sandflies as they were quite vicious!

Thank you for the wonderful review. The climate at Milford can be very diverse and as its in a rain forest this is often expected. Our guides are passionate about what they do making their enthusiasm come natural to every trip. Note to all kayakers: sandfly spray is an essential!!!

My husband & I joined the 1-day Sea Kayaking Experience in Milford Sound. We enjoyed every single part of it (except for the rainy morning, which wasn't really their fault).

We were picked up from our hotel in Te Anau at 6am and arrived at base camp at around 9am. They provided us with thermal top & leggings, wetsuit vest, fleece top, spray deck, life jacket, and everything else to keep us warm and safe.

Don't worry if you are not adventurous, or have not paddled before or prone to sea-sick. You will be "distracted" by the scenery and myriad of Fiordland wildlife (penguins, seals, dolphins) once you set off. The guides are very experienced, not just in terms of safety and kayaking, but also in providing comprehensive commentary about Milford Sound. We also got to enjoy lunch at a secluded spot in Milford Sound (where else can you get this?).

What an amazing review. Milford is one of the wettest places on the planet so this is often expected for the rain forest experience. We understand the importance of comfort on your trip which is why we aim to offer the best equipment possible. It's a leisurely trip that leaves you constantly turning your head to take in the panoramic views. The wildlife makes the trip completely unique and the guides have a reputation for paddling up close when they get the chance. They know their facts and make it a personal tour, not to mention the lunch always feels well deserved and sets you up for the rest of the day.

My husband & I booked a 1-day Sea Kayaking Tour with Fiordland Wilderness Experiences. You get to experience Milford Sound up-close and personal while on the kayaking journey. Photography is allowed, but just be careful not to drop your camera into the sea.

It was raining when we started out in the morning, but the sky cleared out after lunch. Spending a whole day out at Milford Sound meant that we could see both the gloomy/foggy side of the fjord as well as the bright/sunny side of it. In addition, the fiordland wildlife were also out to play on that day. Being on kayaks also enabled us to be close to the fiordland penguins, seals & dolphins!

It was certainly a unique experience, and gives you something to boast about to your friends & family back home :)

Thanks for the great review. The kayaking trip is the ultimate way to experience the fiord from a physical perspective. We fully encourage photo opportunities to take those memories home to share with friends and family, but opting for a waterproof camera is always advised to be able to fully enjoy the trip without any worries. Milford is at its best after it has rained as the waterfalls are spectacular and it's diverse in its changing climates. It's lucky that you had the chance to spot the beautiful wildlife up close, not many people have the chance to visit the 8th wonder of the world, so it's no surprise you wanted to boast about this after your trip.

We went on a one day kayak trip on Milford Sound and had an amazing time. The guides were helpful and informative, and very funny. They gave us all the clothes and gear we needed and led us on a long (tough) paddle against the current. We passed waterfalls and great scenery, then sailed back catching the wind! Great lunch, fun to tool around a lagoon,...overall great time and highly recommended.

We had to great days with Matt, our Guide, in the Doubtful Sound with kayaking. There is no better way to explore the Doubtful Sound than a Kayak. The silence, the steap mountains and the dark waters make this trip unique. Take a lot of insect repellent with you, there are some black flies out there and be prepared for real bad weather....

Thank you for the lovely review. Our guides always have a passion for what they do making it a more personal experience. It sounds like you got a taste of everything Doubtful Sound stands for. Doubtful Sound is in a rain forest setting so this climate is always expected, however it does create spectacular waterfalls.
