We were on Stewart Island for two nights in November. Fortunately we were able to stay at the Stewart Island Lodge when they had a cancellation. We were picked up at the ferry dock (after a very rough crossing from Bluff), given a 10 minute driving tour of the town, and driven up the hill (yes, it is steep but we walked it several times and we are in our mid 70s so it's not that tough) to the Lodge. There we were greeted by Lisa who was fun, charming, and very efficient. Our room was large and had a wonderful view. The continental breakfasts were great and the coffee was the best I had anywhere in NZ. Lisa helped us several times with finding things, making recommendations, and making a reservation for us at the Churchhill Restaurant (see separate review). The Lodge is a bit pricey but well worth it.More
