Stewart Island is a wonderful place to go we only stayed one night but two would have been better. Ulva Island is a must. This hotel definitely improved our experience. The rooms all face the same direction overlooking the bay.

Room tip: There are only 6 rooms all have the same great view

We stayed several nights here and were very comfortable. The rooms are on the large side and several face the beautiful harbor below. There is a guest lounge available with comfortable furniture and binocs for observing the bay and wildlife. Birds abound--we saw several species right from our room and its deck area. Breakfast is served at one table, and is continental, but the kitchen is available if you'd like to fix yourself an omelet to go with the cereals, toast, and yoghurt. The beds are excellent, we thought.

Room tip: Try to get one of the rooms overlooking the beautiful harbor.

My wife and I stayed for two nights. We were collected of the ferry and given a short tour around the quaint Oban.On arrival at the lodge we were shown to our room by Lisa who explained all about the village, walks etc. Our room was comfortable with all the expectant amenities. There were chairs and tables outside and a functional residents lounge. The only disappointment in what is a superb lodge and location was the continental breakfast which predominately consisted of tinned fruits,bagels/bread, fruit juices and cheese. From a English view point it would have been nice to have ham/tomatoes/lettuce etc snd a wider fruit selection which you would normally see in a European continental breakfast. Despite this it is a superb lodge with a competent Lisa to help with your queries and offer advice on any topic. Finally be aware of the steep climb to the properly which can be a problem for senior people.

We stayed at the Stewart Island Lodge for 2 nights (1st - 3rd February 2017). From being met at the ferry terminal on the island to leaving we had the perfect time. We were made to feel very welcome. Our room was excellent with the most amazing view of Halfmoon Bay. The lodge is extremely comfortable with a homely feel, but also one of sheer luxury. Breakfast was continental but very generous in what was offered with a range of fruit, cereals, yoghurt, fruit juices, cheeses, bagels & bread.
Overall we felt special & our time on the island was special.

Room tip: Incredible views, conveniently placed for Oban - but up a very steep hill so you need to be reasonably fit.

Stewart Island Lodge is located on a steep hill facing Half Moon Bay where the catamarans from Bluff on thevmainland moor. It is spacious with 6 nice rooms to cater for in total 12 people, and good shared facilities for cooking, breakfast and relaxation. All rooms open to a large balcony with seats and parasols and magnificent views over the bay. The brush that covers the steep hills are home to many different species of birds, most notably the NZ pigeon, the tui en the bellbird. A continental breakfast is served every morning and transport to and from the harbour is arranged. There are some excellent restaurants on the island, but the biggest attraction is of course a (guided) tour to nearby Ulva Island, a nature reserve that does not have many equals.
