From the Lake Manapouri harbor there was a very pleasant lake crossing; then a surprisingly smooth bus drive (steep and curvy gravel road) and then the Sound cruise itself (abt 3 hrs, incl some time in Tasman Sea). It was all very well organized, the staff was very knowledgeable and gave really interesting insights into the sights, the vehicles and vessels were top-notch modern and comfy. All well worth the cost, a very memorable experience!

We took the ferry for a day return. It’s very quick and comfortable but the prices are very high. They offer free tea and coffee

The seas were modest today with 20 knot winds and 2m seas so the ride was very pleasant. We traveled under partly sunny skies so the scenery was lovely. I'm prone to seasickness but did not have any trouble. I enjoyed fresh air at the stern and it was easy to keep my eyes on the horizon with lovely island scenery. The ferry is a catamaran so makes for more comfortable and smooth ride across Foveaux Strait. There is a lot to see and do once you arrive in Oban.

We had such luck with our cruise: we got to do it on a beautiful sunny day, clear sky, no clouds on the horizon. The boat was comfortable and despite being high season, it wasn’t fully crowded. Looking at the other Real Journeys’ ships, I had the feeling they simply don’t pack their boats with as many tourists as possible (as opposite to others I’ve seen on the same day). As a result, it was easy to move around and get a nice spot to take pictures. Our luck stayed with us as we saw twice dolphins and had a good look at a group of about 10 seals sleeping on the rocks. We had ordered lunch as well (1 obento and 1 picnic) and we found it tasty. All in all an amazing experience!
