Owner description: Stewart Island Experience operates daily ferry service between Bluff and Stewart Island all year around. Stewart Island is New Zealand's ultimate eco-tourism destination and the location of Rakiura National Park. During the one hour ferry crossing, keep a look out for the Mollymawks (Albatross) that often follow the vessel. Daily coach connections operate between Bluff and Invercargill, and in summer also to Te Anau and Queenstown (summer only).

Seamless organisation, meeting the bus connection from Invercargill Airport, through to Bluff then on the ferry across to Stewart Island. A north easterly breeze meant there were a few white caps and a 1m swell. It was a little bumpy getting out of Bluff but then really quite straightforward. We did need to remain seated as the swell meant the boat moved a little unpredictably. I chose to sit out the back as I love the spray and smell of the sea and was not disappointed. I watched an albatross play in the wake and soar and swoop which was a real highlight. I recommend the trip! (For those who get seasick, you would want to take some medication! Staff were attentive and helpful all the way.)

Guess we were lucky as it was smooth sailing both ways. Quite a big boat with double hulls with reasonably comfortable seating. Boat wasnt crowded so no issues with seating. On the way out we had a young chat as pilot he was excellent and very informative along the way.

The trip from Bluff to Stewart Island was a treat, the swells made it all the more entertaining and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Thanks again!

The process of booking and getting on board could not have been simpler or more convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The large catamaran copes well with the swells on Foveaux Strait. The day we travelled the seas were about average (so the crew said). I don't enjoy the inevitable bumps and rolls on such a crossing, but by focusing on the horizon I tolerated the journey adequately. Most other passengers didn't seem at all perturbed. For a landlubber like me, some queasiness is just part of the price for visiting Stewart Island!

It only takes one hour. It's good to see the wetlands that make up such a large part of the south of Bluff.
