Whilst it is located in a small mall backing onto a commuter airport you would never know - its busy with locals and tourists alike who all manage to find it.

It looks out at the Remarkables range of mountains which fully live up to their name.

The food is fresh, interesting and good value in an warm, friendly open provincial style bench and booth style layout.

Handy to the airport and in the main Frankton shopping area so has a great location for visitors either arriving or departing. The service was average, coffee tasted good but not outstanding and we sat outside in the courtyard and it was very noisy with planes and helicopters taking off and landing. Was a tad difficult for a decent conversation.

Odelay is rather tucked away but worth finding. One can eat indoors or out and it feels spacious and airy. There is a good, interesting selection of food. Vegetarians are well catered for. The staff are friendly and efficient. There is no much so you can talk easily. It is convenient for the airport. Parking is easy, if not always a place close by.

The café recommend came from the bright, bubbly and wonderfully helpful Carla on reception at the Ramada Hotel & Suites, Queenstown. We stayed there overnight, having driven from our home in Dunedin and were keen to establish where we might breakfast prior to flying to Sydney the next day.

Odelay is a gentle five minutes or so walk from the Hotel and can be found on the edge of the growing complex of quality retail outlets that is defining the adjacent airport suburb of Frankton.

Reviews usually start with first impressions subsequent to crossing the threshold of an eatery. Our introduction came from pressing our noses against the glass door to get a sense of the place. It came in the form of a huge inviting smile from behind the counter and energetic gestures signalling “come in!” We are very pleased we did, amidst much activity emanating from the kitchen and the growing display of the morning’s baking activities. There were enough locals to make for a welcoming buzz and this with the aroma of freshly ground coffee made us feel comfortably curious about what would be on offer. An immaculately kept outdoors area and mountain views added to the ambience.

Odelay’s philosophy is based on tasteful simplicity. We endorse their words without reservation…

“We love good food and believe that the best food starts with the finest and freshest ingredients. Our menu changes with the seasons to embrace the produce that is at its best. In preparing food, we like to keep things simple but work with fresh herbs and spices to add depth and flavour to a dish.”

The fruit platter with runny honey, mint, yoghurt and granola, not only looked berry rich and appealing, but its consumer (who regularly likes to start the day this way), rated it as one of the best fruit platters she has had and plenty of it to boot! The male penchant for quality bacon and free-range eggs came in the form of a ‘breakfast bun’, with additions of tomatoes, fresh greens and wilted spinach. The bun was outstanding, soft and inviting, more brioche than bread in character. It didn’t disintegrate, nor was it made of the sometimes dentally challenging outer that can come with over crisped sourdough. Usually comes with hollandaise, but too rich at that time of day for me. The request was noted and acted on without comment by the excellent and helpful staff. Yum all round!

We strongly encourage travellers and locals alike to avoid the Queenstown traffic and stop off at Odelay’s in Frankton. We are certain you will be as positively welcomed and catered for as we were, with food and service to match.

Visited for lunch 2.45pm 4/1/18.
Service very quick but table not cleaned before we dined.
My eggs Benedict bacon was overcooked and not much of it.
My wife’s Malaysian Laksa was very tasty and an excellent dish.
Coffee was above average.
Overall about 8 out of 10.
