We decided to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary with a family dinner at Blue Kanu, looking forward to a interesting meal with a Polynesian influence.
We were greeted warmly upon arrival, and enjoyed the fabulous decor and atmosphere.
When we ordered the meal, we did inquire about the spiciness of one of the dishes, as we don't enjoy meals with a significant amount of chilli. After being assured that the heart could be adjusted, it was still hotter than we adults could enjoy. The rest of the dishes served were delicious and enjoyable.
We had hoped to order dessert, however after watching tables being cleared, reset and new patrons seated and served around us, we decided to see what we could find on our way back to the hotel. We discovered that staff had failed to turn up that evening, and so the waiting staff were under pressure.
I would return here again, as I feel that the restaurant was having a difficult evening, and worth another try.

We have dined at Blue Kanu several times now and are always impressed. The restaurant has such a vibrant atmosphere, full of life - from the staff to the beautiful murals that adorn the walls. We walked in on a Saturday night (usually have to book well in advance for most venues in Qtown) and were immediately seated by the fire. I was craving a deep, rich, full bodied glass of red wine and the lovely waitress went out of her way to find the perfect one. All the staff are very genuine, it would be easy to give up considering the amount of traffic they must see, but with every table they are as interested and jovial the next. Beautiful Oysters, and a twist on the Fijian Kokoda are a must try (the Nam Jim Sorbet with the Kokoda is ridiculous - they need to bottle this!) The Tahitian Vanilla lime tart is to die for also! I found the Lamb ribs a bit fatty (but that's just personal taste, my husband loved them). The sharing menu works very well also for couples, groups etc. Overall one of the best restaurants for us, also have live music on weekends which is an added bonus!

We went to Blue Kanu for my 21st birthday dinner. I must say, the atmosphere was amazing, I felt like i was being transported to a tropical island. However, i was disappointed with the small portion sizes and expensive pricing. The food was very tasty but we were lucky if we got a couple pieces of venison each, one of our friends actually missed out because there wasn't enough to go around. Were also disappointed with the baby coconuts being out of stock as i wanted to try one of those. I bought the most expensive cocktail on the list.. the sundown and like the name suggests, you would expect a brightly coloured cocktail that looks similar to a tequila sunrise. Unfortunately, the cocktail itself looked quite bland compared to some of the others and i found it extremely potent. I ended up trading it with my boyfriend. Lastly, a friend ordered the pork buns, the waitress asked if she wanted three without explaining that each plate came with one and cost $11 each. She found out at the end of the meal that it would cost $33.00 for three pork buns. This is way too expensive, especially as she is a student. This restaurant is appropriate for customers who are working full time and have plenty of money. If you are a student, i would recommend going somewhere that has better value for money and larger portion sizes. Overall, Blue Kanu was an exciting experience, i wouldn't go here again unless there was a large group of people who ordered plenty of the large plates.

Reading the menu before going in we expected some interesting and tasty food given the combinations of ingredients and the Poly-Asian cooking style. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and looked amazing.

We aren't big eaters so just ordered two small plates and a large plate to share. The marinated fish, park belly steamed bun and the venison. Fish was lovely, Pork was super tasty and we would highly recommend the venison.

Fortunately this left room for desert - chocolate and hazelnut wontons with banana ice cream. Fantastic.

A great restaurant if you want to try something unique. Thanks to our waitress, Annie, who looked after us very well.

I took my mum and her partner here after having been with a friend previously, and loving it. They are not that adventurous with their food, so I was worried, but they LOVED it. We had chicken karaage (which was a huge hit), edamame (which I think they were quite unsure of but really liked), pork steamed buns, and a creamy curry. The waiters are fun - maybe a little too over the top with the weirdness for my parents, but I enjoyed them. The environment is funky and there's plenty to look at.
