Excellent hotel for exploring the Queenstown area

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Nov 2023via mobile
Stayed here for 3 nights whilst we explored the Queenstown area. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is free and beneath the hotel - spaces are generous so accommodated the hire car well. The hotel is about a 20min walk downhill into town or a $15 taxi ride if you didn’t fancy the steep uphill return! Queenstown is having water quality issues and we were given water bottles refillable at the water station at reception. Breakfast was very good with wide selection of options. We did order room service one evening and it was prompt and tasty and had the same selection as dining in. We were impressed with the quality. The only improvement I would suggest was a mirror that had a plug point next to it for hair drying. It would free up the bathroom which as a family sharing one room would help! Overall though a comfortable and relaxed stay!

Queenstown was our favourite stop on our North & South Island tour and the Heritage one of our favourite hotels. It’s slightly out of town (15 mins walk to the centre) but has great views of the lake, although our room looked out on the trees and stream at the back. The only reason for not giving it five * was the poor wifi (I can slightly sympathise as it’s a big, spread out estate) and the slightly drab bar area. The room was a good size with a nice bathroom with both bath and shower (not always the case in NZ in our experience). Helpful reception and concierge. The only slight surprise is that access to reception is via some quite steep steps, but painful with luggage. If you were in a wheelchair you would have to go round the back and enter by the bar.
Would certainly stay here again.

Room tip: Try and get lake view room

Kia Ora

Thank you so much for your review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us.

It is amazing to hear that you found our front office staff helpful. As well as we are also glad that you have enjoyed the view of Lake Wakatipu from our property and like the size of our room and the facilities that come along with it.

Please be advised we are working on the Wifi issue and taking effective actions to resolve this issue for the future.

We hope you visit us again soon.

The appearance of the room and bathroom were disappointing for the price we paid. This is not a resort. There is barely any lobby and no spa. The restaurant menu looked overpriced compared to the many restaurant choices in town. We had dinner in town both nights, and rather than walk 25 minutes in the dark, we took Ubers back to the hotel.

Beautiful accommodation in Queenstown we had a lake view room every detail perfect. On arrival reception was excellent even going further as our checkin was delayed gave us a free drink voucher whilst we waited. Beds were super comfortable and lovely location overlooking the lake and mountains. We had room service dinner brought up was delivered quickly and very nice. Missed the breakfast as too relaxing. We had a lake view room in the lake view block ensure where you are booking. Great walks from the hotel and although too cold to use the pool area it looked very clean and a lovely area. Definitely recommend for a stay in Queenstown.

Room tip: Search around for prices. But really its worth the money for the location and service

If I could, I'd give 10 stars to the front desk staff, especially Tam and Jay. Both went above and beyond to make my stay pleasant.

As others have noted, the Heritage has beautiful views, though what you'll see understandably varies from building to building and room to room. If a specific view (lake or forest, for example) is important to you, I'd advise clarifying that at the time of your reservation.

Rooms are attractive, spacious, clean and supplied with some of the nicest bath amenities I've seen in any hotel. The hotel is a bit of a walk, and a hilly one, from the town center, but there is a bus stop just across the street, and when I was there, the bus ran every 15 minutes. (I'm not sure what the scheduled hours of operation are, but they worked for me.)

City #2 for us in NZ was Queenstown. BEAUTIFUL doesn't begin to describe the lake & mountains surrounding this quaint town, and our room in the back with a balcony took full advantage of the scenery! Literally took our breath away when my partner and I stepped outside.

The room was spacious, clean and comfy. Great nights of sleep. Shower had great water pressure.

Parking was free, breakfast is included; a very nice buffet with plenty of choices. The food was tasty as well.

The gentleman who checked us in was super friendly and other staff members at the front desk were also lovely. The ONLY complaint was about a VERY loud cleaning staff (female) who was screaming in the hallway for quite a bit of time. Luckily, we were already up, but I felt bad for anyone else who was trying to sleep.

A very solid choice. I would highly recommend it!
