This restaurant was a hidden-gem in my recent trip to Queenstown. I've dined at Indian restaurants previously with Michelin stars (Tamarind in London), so I had very high expectations. The meal began with garlic naan and rice, which paired well together. The bread had a perfect amount of garlic, and had a great savory flavor. For the main entree, I split the mango chicken and biryani with a friend. We were both impressed by the richness of the mango seasoning in the chicken (tasted like dessert). As well, we thought the yogurt side paired perfectly with the biryani. Each serving size was plenty, and nobody left the meal still feeling hungry. One of the best parts of the meal was the service. We were constantly checked up on to make sure the food was up to our standards. When checking out, we were asked for our feedback on the meal, and the staff was genuinely interested in our comments. Another interesting part of the experience was the restaurant's decor and music. Both provided a great setting for the meal. Overall, the pricing of the meal was very fair (cost around ~30 NZD per person for food and drink). Plain and simple, this restaurant had supreme service and delicious food. If I visit Queenstown again, I will surely go back and attend The Spice Room!
