Worst motel I have ever stayed at!

Review of Lakeside Motel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Oct 2018
Avoid this place at all costs! The photos are misleading. It was the most terrible place I have ever stayed. There was no security and I woke up in the middle of the night and 3 people who looked homeless were sleeping on the Everything was bad. Our beds were not even made and the garbage can was full! The staff are rude and just sit on their phones. The place is disgusting and dirty

Mould everywhere!

This place is very dodgy!

Lakeside Motel was an amazing little retro motel with the best views in queenstown. The staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Our little apartment was cosy and warm and just the right size for three people with our own kitchen which was great with our child so we could make food there and not spend a bomb eating out everyday. The walk into town was so quick and we were constantly back and forwards exploring everything around the area on foot the public transport was great so no need to hire a car. I would definately love to come and stay here again. Thank you for a great time.

We stayed here because it was very cheap for Queenstown and in a great location. The views from our room out to the lake were amazing. It was so close to Queenstown central - 3 minute walk. Staff were lovely on check in.

Rooms are very dated, although bathrooms look like they’ve been redone recently. Fridge seal was stuffed and wouldn’t close properly; had to put a heavy bag in front of it to keep it shut.

There are frosted windows on the opposite side to the lakeside of the room with no curtains - at night time light streams in these and lights up the room. We had to hang towels and clothes over these to sleep.

The bed was dreadful. So hard that I kept waking up with pins and needles due to circulation issues I’ve never had before. The second night we laid a thick blanket under the sheets to improve the situation.

This place isn’t for the princesses (more than peas hidden under these beds), but it does the job.

Was a bit ordinary as the room was old and dated and needed a lot of work, and the carpet need to be replaced, and the drains in the kitchen area had a bit of a smell. Bed was comfortable, and the heater worked well, and strangely enough, even tho our room was right at the front, facing the road, it was quiet enough. The girl who checked us in was very nice and helpful. But it seemed more like a back packers place to me. When we got back after going out for dinner there was nowhere for us to park as some fool had taken up 2 spots, so we called the number on the door and a very nice lady told us we could park 2 doors down in another motel, so that helped.
But i dont know as I would stay again , even tho the view was stunning. The room was old and ugly, and what had me greatly puzzled was that the back door of the room, which led onto some sort of hall way, had a cat flap in it ????

Nice view over the lake but that is as good as it gets. The bed had passed its"use by" date and there was mould on the ceiling of the bedroom. The kitchen, which was not well equiped, had a very old hole in the wall and the cupboard handles were gummy and sticky. The bathroom appeared to have been done up but on a very low budget as the toilet seat was too small for the bowl and there was not a single towel rail or even a hook to be found. The kitchen and bathroom windows opened up onto an indoor passage where the lights were never turned off resulting in the sleeping area being bathed in light the whole night. Lakeside Motel has to be bottom of the list when it comes to places to stay in Queenstown.

We booked this place because of the location , and it was magnificent, right on the lake , magical views, close to everything , we only needed somewhere to sleep so we thought this would be ok , ohh boy we were wrong .
We have stayed in some crappy places around the world and this ranks right up there , for a Start was the smell, a musky horrible wet smell , there is no air circulating in the room and it was far to cold to open windows ( however that is what we had to do on day 4).
The bathroom had no form of heating whatsoever and was absolutely freezing , the shower seemed to be possessed by a demon and fluctuated between warm and lava .
There was a light that shone through from the outside that illuminated the whole room , you could have almost needed to sleep with sunglasses on it was that bright. The bed was so soft and had a massive hollow in the middle .
The Tv only had 4 stations and the DVD player did not work.
The kitchen smelt like urine but at least it masked the smell of the other room which incidentally never got cleaned or vacuumed the whole week we were there .
The location was just perfect , but the rooms are terribly dated and in major need of refurb, Do yourself a favor and spend a bit more and stay somewhere else .

Room tip: Room 13 sucks
