Review of Lakeside Motel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Jul 2018
We booked this place because of the location , and it was magnificent, right on the lake , magical views, close to everything , we only needed somewhere to sleep so we thought this would be ok , ohh boy we were wrong .
We have stayed in some crappy places around the world and this ranks right up there , for a Start was the smell, a musky horrible wet smell , there is no air circulating in the room and it was far to cold to open windows ( however that is what we had to do on day 4).
The bathroom had no form of heating whatsoever and was absolutely freezing , the shower seemed to be possessed by a demon and fluctuated between warm and lava .
There was a light that shone through from the outside that illuminated the whole room , you could have almost needed to sleep with sunglasses on it was that bright. The bed was so soft and had a massive hollow in the middle .
The Tv only had 4 stations and the DVD player did not work.
The kitchen smelt like urine but at least it masked the smell of the other room which incidentally never got cleaned or vacuumed the whole week we were there .
The location was just perfect , but the rooms are terribly dated and in major need of refurb, Do yourself a favor and spend a bit more and stay somewhere else .

We arrived at reception and filled in our details. We were offered milk and then told they had run out. Not a good start. We were shown to our room. It was an older style concrete block unit. The only source of heating was an oiled filled heater.(No good in the middle of winter). The Queen size bed had a massive hollow on one side which was extremely uncomfortable. The bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished but the toilet seat didn't fit the toilet properly and there was nowhere to hang up your towels. The kitchen had a frosted glass window which opened onto a brightly lit corridor. Unfortunately you could not block off the light coming through and it was like sleeping with the light on all night. We had to ask for an extension cord so we could plug the heater in and watch at the some time. I really think this property needs some real TLC to bring it up to a decent standard.

Heater not working carpet wet from rain coming in the door past the kitchenette. We recognise our room by finding the water pooling at our door. We must have picked the cheapest stay...

View is superb as it's right in front of the lake and walking distance from the central.

Wi-Fi is limited.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but Friendly staff, phenomenal location - right across the road from the beautiful lake, only a 5-10 min walk into the main street of Queenstown. Good little kitchen as well

Noisy, light still coming into the room at night, cold (despite provision of electric heater and electric blanket), and generally a bit dated.
However, it’s well located (quickly walkable to town), the view from the front of mountains and water is beautiful, there’s free parking, it’s cheaper than many other options in Queenstown, there’s basic kitchen provision, a good shower, and all in all for a few nights it’s a good option if you can overlook the downsides. Would give it 3.5.

We stayed in the apartments next to the motel and checkin is done at the motel. There was a wait at checkin as the only receptionist was showing a guess to their room. She also escorted us and was very helpful.
The apartment is showing signs of wear and isn’t overly clean. There was plenty of room in the two level, two bedrooms apartment and it has all amenities. The view is spectacular and the location perfect. Park the car and walk everywhere.
The main negatives were the poor quality mattresses and very slow wifi.
