A Queenstown Gem!

Review of Hulbert House
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Apr 2024
We concur with all of the previous reviews -- what a wonderful property with such gracious hosts. Chris, Tav, Sasha, and everyone we encountered during our visit made our stay in Queenstown outstanding. From the accommodations and the views to the breakfasts and the wine hour(s) in the evening, Hulbert House was a dream. We especially noticed the details: the music playlist in the afternoons was always on point, the fragrances throughout the building were refreshing and not cloying, and the fresh bottles of water and chocolates on the nightstand after turndown service were a welcome sight after a long day of activities.

As so many have said, the incline from town up to the property is indeed steep (think San Francisco). We found it fairly easy to trip down the hill into town and then grab an Uber (less than NZ $10) back up the hill afterwards.

If we ever find ourselves back in Queenstown, we would DEFINITELY stay at Hulbert House again, without question.

I am not sure if this is the best place to stay in Queenstown, since it is the only place we have stayed. However, I would not hesitate to stay there again. The views are stunning, the service was unparalleled, (especially Tav and Sasha) and the location is fantastic. It’s on a short hill, overlooking Queenstown, so you can watch the boats, the paragliders, and the gondola from your room, or the patio in front of the hotel. If you were looking for an ultra modern hotel, this is not. However, that’s where it gets much of its charm, because it feels like home.

Room tip: There is construction on the road around the hotel, so don’t rely on GPS call them to get directions.

Hulpert is a super luxurious yet unpretentious, friendly and warmly welcoming. It has parking off street and secured with key tags. Amazing views of the Queenstown waterfront. It is within easy 5 min walk to all the great restaurants and bars downtown. The people who run it are so friendly and welcoming from Chris (thanks for parking our car), Tavae (who made our day on the first breakfast with her smile and stories of the building) and Jay (who with our helicopter debacle) and every warmly shakes your hands and make you feel at home.
The breakfast is plentiful with healthy options (chia pudding, smashed avocado toast etc..). Perfect stay in the beautiful Queenstown.

Please aware that the hotel is on a steep slope so if you are walking around, do take care of your steps!
