We booked a 2 bedroom apartment at pounamu apartments for 3 nights. 2 bedrooms come with 2 king size bed & my our group is 4 adults & a 3 year old child. We thought this 2 bedroom apartment will be sufficient for us as my child is not mature enough to sleep in another room in foreign place.

When we check-in, the hotel staff said it is their local council regulation that 5 persons must hav 3 rooms & above 12 mths is consider adult. When I am back u cannot find such ruling on the council website, should have ask them to show me the ruling.

The hotel insisting us to pay for another studio for 3 nights for nzd800. They even told us tat all other hotels & apartments are fully booked at that period. As we just reach so we trusted them & paid the the additional studio of which we didn't use the studio.

When we drove down to the town, we realise there were still many hotels with vacancy.

All the tourist attractions in queenstown actually do not charge entrance fee for kid below 5 year old. Is there such ruling ?

This apartment is very nice & clean except that they do not clean the apartment for the 4 days we were there. They said that this is the apartment concept. But we stayed in Christchurch & Auckland apartments for more than 1 nights they clean the apartment on daily basis. For cheaper price we pay in other places, other apartments can provide daily cleaning services.

Dear mabel l
I was disappointed to read that Pounamu failed to meet your needs and expectations during your stay at Pounamu.

As expressed when you checked in, the 2 BRM Apartment is licensed in Queenstown for an allocation of up to 4 people including children. The terms and conditions are outlined on the websites and are also confirmed in your confirmation email at the time of your booking. As our Apartments are consented by the Queenstown Lakes District Council for Visitor Accommodation which include the requirement for a maximum of 4 people we could lose our Consent and we would also not be insured if our regulations were breeched. Our apologies however this is not a risk we are prepared to take.

It is not always easy to navigate on websites when looking at accommodation options. Agoda, Booking.com and other websites only allow you to input up to 4 people for a 2BRM Apartment (2 people for a 1BRM or Studio Room). If you had input 5 or more the website would not show up a 2 BR Apartment at Pounamu. Our Alpine 2 BR Apartments can cater for 5 people but these were fully booked when you arrived. For 5 people you would require an extra room, which an ideal choice is a Studio Room which does incur an extra charge. We were fortunate to have a studio left as it is the school holidays and Queenstown is a very popular destination and like us has limited space, otherwise there would be no refund and access would have been denied for 5 people in a 2 BR Apartment.

One of the amenities that our Guests enjoy about Pounamu, is that the rooms are “self catering”, creating the ideal “home away from home” environment and this is also advised in the confirmation email. Daily servicing is an optional extra which you will find common for Apartments in Queenstown. Extra towels are also provided in the room, not to mention robes and slippers along with free use of the Laundry in your Apartment.

We hope you will reconsider your position and take the next opportunity when in Queenstown and stay at Pounamu again.

Warm regards
Leo Van Dijk
General Manager

We made a last minute booking to stay in the apartments and the staff were wonderful and friendly, the location was perfect (just a short walk to town) and the views from our lounge were stunning. The apartment had everything (and more) that you need when traveling as a family and working remotely. We would stay here again without a doubt.

Dear lans001

Thank you for your fantastic review. We are so pleased to read you and your family enjoyed your stay at Pounamu.

Pounamu is perfect for families and for the children the 2 Bedroom Apartments have all the space you need, not to mention having a TV/DVD/DVD’s in the Studio Room and lounge and another TV in the 1 Bedroom (3 TV’s).

The kitchen is perfect for entertaining along with the good size lounge. I will share your feedback with the team as they are always pleased to hear how much guests have enjoyed their stay with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back, sometime soon. Keep a look out on our website for Seasonal Special offers. Maybe we will see you in Summer next time.

Warm regards

I stayed for weekend me and my sister having two bedrooms apartment which was great, quite and full furnished.
Staff was friendly.

Adding breakfast option wasn't good idea since they cater basket includes (1 orang, 1 apple, 1 bottle of milk and some small staff of honey and jam) for both of us which wasn't sufficient breakfast.

The only disadvantage was the distance from city center but again it was acceptable walking around 10 to 15 minutes.

Dear Mohammed

Thank you for your review.

I was surprised to read though that our Continental Breakfast Basket was disappointing. I will ensure that in future, we are clear in informing our guests what our $13.00 Continental Breakfast Basket includes (Sanitarium Cereal, Benjer pure fruit juice, pottle of fruit, 1 x fresh fruit, yoghurt, 2 x bread, milk, butter/condiments) per person.

The $10 Green Cab Pounamu Special is great value for a trip to or from Pounamu into town. A leisurely walk into town for dinner and then back to your Apartment with Green Cabs. Down load their AP on your phone and it doesn’t matter where you are, Green Cabs will find you.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Our family of four stayed in a 2 br apartment last week. It was perfect. Everything you could need was provided. The walk into the centre of Queenstown was a little further out than I expected, but it was not difficult and even our tired 10 yr old managed it each night after dinner. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your 5***** review maccattleco. We are so pleased to read that you enjoyed your time in Queenstown with your family.

The great thing about accommodation in Queenstown is that if you want to be right in town in the hub of the activity, you can. However for those that want the spectacular views, Pounamu certainly has “amazing” views of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu, which are just a 10 minute walk into town or a 4 minute drive or grab the Pounamu Special $10 taxi ride with Green Cabs.

We hope you return again and maybe enjoy our next Ski season. Not only can you store your skis in the ski lockers, you can also hire fantastic gear from “SnoPro” in Queenstown. Delivery right to your Apartment.

Apartment was inviting, very comfortable and very clean, beds were so comfortable. The view was out over the lake and the mountains and was stunning. Lovely place to stay, totally recommend it.
