I did the real journeys nature cruise of Milford Sound. A 2hr cruise packed full with information about the history of the sound. There is an optional picnic box lunch which was worth the value....plenty of snacks, a piece of fruit, sandwich and a bottle of water, free tea and coffee was also available.
The ship went right up to a couple of waterfalls which was great to get a close up view. It was a lovely sunny day the day I was there but still chilly.....make sure you take layers!
A very long days drive from Queenstown,

Thank Gail M

We drove from Te Anau to Milford Sound. The road was ok at first but then it got hilly and crooked. We stopped to take pictures at a scenic place called Mirror Lakes and then had to drive through a long one way tunnel. The cruise didn't board until 4:20 PM so we got some sandwiches near the boat terminal and waited in the car in the rain. We didn't know that daylight savings time had ended so our wait was even longer than expected. The ship finally left the dock and we got into our small cabin. We went by some waterfalls and the boat anchored so some of the people could go kayaking or explore the shoreline in a motorboat. I have kayaked in Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound in the past so we skipped that part. The bar didn't open until 6:00 PM and they assigned seats for dinner at 7:00 PM. The buffet dinner was ok and we sat with a nice couple from Taos, New Mexico who were also driving all around New Zealand. We had to get up really early in the dark for the 7:00 AM breakfast buffet. The ship then went out into The Tasman sea for awhile and then past several waterfalls before returning to the dock at 9:15 AM. The overnight cruise is fairly expensive but the scenery is spectacular especially the waterfalls when it is raining.

Was booked on the milford sound scenic tour during our New Zealand trip last Dec.

Everything went smoothly from the time they picked us up at our hotel until they brought us back to Queenstown in the afternoon.

Checking in for the tour was smooth and the bus ride was comfortable with plenty of stops for picture taking. The cruise itself was nice and the scenery spectacular. The food serve was ok.

Overall, would recommend touring Milford Sound with Real Journeys.

Kia Ora and thanks for the five star review. We are delighted to see how highly you rated your Milford experience with us. Hopefully the rest of your time in New Zealand was just as enjoyable.
Kind regards, the team at Real Journeys.

My husband and I visited Milford Sound in April just after an unexpected snowfall and cold snap. We booked with Real Journeys and they didn't disappoint. Road had been closed so when we finally got down to Sound a few tours were combined so they gave us a complimentary buffet lunch which was lovely. Boat was huge. Plenty of room even though it was raining there was a great deck above to take in the beautiful views. Would recommend Real Journeys to anyone. Thanks for a great experience

We were told it was a three hour bus ride to the sound from queenstown--it was actually more like seven hours because we dropped off people and picked them up and then we had to stop for the bus driver to have a smoke . . . .Didn't get to the boat until 4PM. The "zodiac" to closely explore the sound was actually an old grungy boat--had to wear smelly life jackets and the guide knew nothing about the sound. We didn't even sail out to the Sea the first day. The gourmet dinner" was a buffet with assigned seating--really? And to add insult to injury, they charged $17 for a glass of wine!
The room was a few inches larger than the bed with a porthole the size of my I-phone so high up you had to stand on the bed to see out of it. Breakfast next day was served only between 6:15 and 7:15--hardly a relaxing cruise. In the dark we motored out to the Tasman Sea for a few minutes and they never even put up the sails. We were off the boat by 9AM and had to endure another extremely long uncomfortable bus ride with a driver who just wanted to tell us how great he was. Finally, someone on the bus asked him to please be quiet. Not as advertised and very overpriced.
