What an absolutely amazing experience this was - 2 days travelling on a luxury coach , from Queenstown, with Craig who was so knowledgeable( like an encyclopaedia) helpful, efficient and heaps of fun! We learnt so much and were so well looked after from the moment we stepped on the coach till leaving 36 hours later.
The whole journey was awesome . Scenery - so amazing . Once aboard the boat for our overnight cruise we were so well looked after. All the staff were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The cabins were beautiful, small mini hotel rooms - just grear. Food- excellent and bountiful- from the fresh sandwiches and muffins on arrival, 5 course buffet dinner and full multi choice breakfast in the morning.
We were very lucky to see fur seals and a pod of dolphins on our journey through the sound to the Tasman Sea.
A truly amazing experience.

I was booked on coach-cruise-coach from Queenstown. Honestly, I feel like it was the longest trip of my life. The coach ride was long and boring. The cruise was not any better. It will be better if u self drive to Milford if u really want to go to milford sound. Save yourself the money and time. Not recommended for young couple though :x wasted my day

Hi there, thanks for the review. We're sorry to see you didn't enjoy your trip to Milford Sound from Queenstown. Whilst it is a long day out, the coach is extremely roomy, with tiered seats angled towards the window and a glass roof so you don't miss out on any of the spectacular views. Our awesome driver/guides deliver entertaining and informative dialogue throughout the journey along one of the most scenic roads you can travel in the world, so you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Self-drive to Milford is definitely a suitable option, however is not much quicker and the Milford Road in our opinion is better enjoyed when you don't have to do the driving!
Kind regards, the team at Real Journeys.

Great trip and experience on the Wanderer. Milford sound is an amazing place and the overnight trip enables you to enjoy all aspects of it.

The food (dinner & breakfast) onboard is great and there was large portion sizes. Unfortunately there aren’t enough tables in mid deck for each cabin to eat on your own so you have to share with others. This isn’t made obvious or clear until dinner and your suddenly walking up to other guests and interrupting their meals asking to share a table.

We took a trip to the Milford Track and a member of staff gave a guide walk along the first part of the track, be sure to take bug spray.

As you can imagine the onboard drinks prices are inflated.

The boat travels right out into the sound and then to the sea. There are regular points at which the staff provide local knowledge and information about parts of the area. You visit two waterfalls and the boat is moored overnight is a quiet cove where the views are stunning.

The cabin was clean, tidy, very nice bedding. Showers in the shared bathroom area are very nice, hot etc. The boat overall is clean and modern and spacious.

Upper deck are chairs and benches to sit on at night and look around at the amazing sights.
If you want to experience the Sound away from the tourists and spend plenty of time there. This is an amazing trip and experience.

Next time I will book the other boat, the Mariner as they offer Kayaking rather than the walk (which was a bit slow for my activity level)

Booked myself on the Milford Sound Scenic Tour and Cruise with Real Journeys and was not disappointed though the weather could have been better! Hudson (our coach driver) and Jing (the Chinese guide) were very attentive to details and the needs of the group. They also had very informative commentary and being bilingual, I benefitted from both sets of commentaries! The highlight for me apart from the scenery enroute was being so close to the waterfalls on the cruise! Got wet but thoroughly enjoyed it! Only downside was that there was a majority of tourists from mainland China, most of whom were not considerate of others when taking pictures, they simply hoard the space.
