My husband and I did the coach-cruise-fly option of Milford Sound from Queenstown, it was amazing. The coach ride is long, about 5 hours, but it went by fast with amazing scenery the entire way and great commentary from our bus driver, Dean. My only complaint is that I wish we had a bathroom stop earlier (there is no bathroom on board) having just had breakfast and a big coffee, my bladder suffered those first 2 hours. I probably should have anticipated that and skipped the coffee... otherwise after Te Anau, we had a few quick rest stops and some sight seeing at key spots along the way.
The cruise was AMAZING. I guess we had a rare sunny day, the scenery was breathtaking, we even saw a pod of dolphins, plenty of seals, and a bunch of waterfalls. Photos of Milford Sound don’t do it justice, you must see it in person.
I am so happy we booked the flight back- another 5 hour bus ride seemed daunting. It was our first “little plane” flight (12 people), but it was not scary. It was wonderful, flying through and over all of the mountains... such a great experience, and only a 40 minute trip back to Queenstown!
This tour is one of our most memorable days in NZ.

We took the bus 4.5 hours to the Mariner boat ride and took the 40 min flight back. The drive is beautiful and the driver/guide informative. We made at least 3 stops for bathroom and/or photos. I am glad we saw the terrain one way, but the thought of the same drive back did not appeal to us. We upgraded to the flight. It was a highlight! Seeing the mountains and glaciers from 8000 feet was amazing.
The boat ride is very nice and beautiful. But 9 hours of driving is a lot. The box lunch was adequate, nothing special.
Real Journeys does an excellent job with logistics. Very professional.

From the wonderful driver, Russell , to the beautiful yacht awaiting in the harbor, this was a truly luxury experience to see the magnificent Milford Sound and wildlife. Our skipper Carl and crew were terrific. The comfortable cabin, the privacy, the meals, all made this quite a special adventure. We came right up to waterfalls, seals, the outlet to the Tasman Sea, and met very nice international guests. We would highly recommend!!

My wife and I stopped off in the area whilst touring New Zealand and enjoyed spending a night in Milford Sound aboard the Milford Mariner. The trip started at 4:30 pm and ended at 9:15 am the next morning. It was such a wonderful way to experience Milford Sound. We experienced the Tender Boat and had a lovely meal on the evening. The crew onboard were very friendly and helped to create what will be long lasting pleasant memories.

We recently spent some days in the Fiordland area and did a number of activities, including the overnight cruise in Milford Sound, the helicopter tour on the glacier and the day cruise in Doubtful Sound. The overall experience dealing with Real Journeys was absolutely fantastic. The whole booking process was very easy, I had a number of questions which where answered within hours of emailing - despite the 12h time difference. The transfers to and from the different activities were smooth and the activities themselves were very well planned, and truly memorable. What really elevated our experience was our guide Craig. He is so passionate about his job, so knowledgeable about the history, the nature and he is a wonderful story teller. He clearly loves what he does and is the right man in the right role. Best guide ever! Thank you for making this an unforgettable experience!
