Milford Sound is truly one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. Real Journeys Overnight tour of the sound from beginning to end was simply one of our best and most memorable travel experiences. I cannot recommend it enough. I also recommend the overnight cruise. The cruise vessel, Milford Mariner, sleeps about 60 in single or double cabins. The cabins are a little cramped but very comfortable with an ensuite. Dinner and breakfast were of surprisingly good and plentiful. There is a bar on board to cater for most palettes. The crew were fantastic and the views simply magnificent. Others have said this so much more eleoquent but what I want to say is this. Firstly it rains in the sound every other day on average but weather you might consider inclement simply adds to the magnificence of the Sound for the simple reason during or after rain the subsequent waterfalls have to be seen to be believed. They are simply indescribably beautiful. One tip which I would make is try to go when New Zealand has daylight Savings. Being further south the light last so much longer in the evenings. Another tip, rug up for all four seasons. And a final tip is when booking a cabin do make sure it is as close to the fron of the boat as possible because Cabins at the back are in the range of engine noises. Even when the boat is stopped. I can’t recommend this tour enough.
Kia Ora CrewCommander and thanks for the amazing review. We are absolutely delighted to read how the Overnight Cruise in Milford Sound was one of your most memorable travel expereriences - we would certainly have to agree! We are also firm believers that seeing Milford Sound in the rain is best way to see it. As you say, you need to see the waterfalls to believe them! Hopefully the rest of your time in New Zealand was just as enjoyable.
Kind regards, the team at Real Journeys.
This cruise was ideal for teenagers who get bored quickly. The skipper was very informative and seemed passionate about the environment.
He even managed to spot 3 tiny penguins hiding in the rocks and stopped for us to take photos.
Boat was clean with lots of viewing opportunities.
Awesome service and great friendly staff
You guys doing well and adding so much value to Milford Sound
Thanks for the awesome feedback!
The impression of the 3-layer dark blue big boat (Nature Cruise/NZD79/pax) is very comfortable. The 2 hrs journey of Milford Sound, the nature guide narrated the attractions very professional. There is a mini canteen in the boat, sells picnic lunch (including sandwiches, mineral water bottle, nuts, chocolate, apple, biscuit & cheese) at NZD18. Provide free coffee self-service.
We did the coach tour and day cruise from Te Anau to Milford Sound and would highly recommend the experience.
Coach picked us up from our accommodation and we enjoyed a friendly and informative trip to Milford.
The coach was very comfortable and well laid out with angled seating and huge windows and skylight widows overhead.
Our coach driver “Curls” was excellent we had many stops for photos on the way, and on the return leg.
The cruise was well organised, again very informative commentary and we got to see the sights of Milford Sound, enjoy a picnic lunch, and get wet under a waterfall to boot!
Great tour, well run and delivered with pride and care.
Thanks Real Journeys.
We arrived in Milford Sound by helicopter and joined this cruise. The cruise was really great with informative commentary throughout. It was quite a cold day so we had the open top deck to ourselves for most of the cruise. The cruise was included as part of our helicopter flight so can't comment on the price or value for money. The cruise itself was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. Milfor Sound is a must see location in New Zealand, a truly stunning natural wonder.
