The Cabbage Tree has been the choice of many in Invercargill for a number of years. The food has always been generously lavished across the plate and this visit was no different. Very big menu from all day breakfast to steaks, seafood and salads. Scallops are always delicious and the oysters and whitebait probably still my favorite. I Opted for seafood chowder on this occasion which was generously peppered with seafood is a creamy base and afforded me a real treat. Restaurant is great for kids with not 1 but 2 outdoor extensive play areas which include trampolines, climbing frames etc. An indoor area for colouring in and video games and building bricks. A must visit if with kids in summer and the restaurant is large enough to avoid families if your dining with just adults.

Seafood chowder seemed to be a hit but my lamb salad was lacking lamb pieces. Wait staff attitude seemed to have improved, although we had to go up to bar and tell staff we were ready to order. So yes meals seemed to have improved but not like they used to be

We had a group of twenty+ and were given our own separate area at no extra cost and it was ideal if you had any speeches to make. I believe they also have a large area upstairs where you can pay extra for the room.

Went out for a work dinner. Had to go up and ask for service from 3 waiters who were all standing at the bar talking. Did not come to ask if our meals were ok or anything. Next time we wanted drinks had to flag down a waiter to get servrd. Meal was nice but Would not go back because of unfriendly and unhelpful staff.

Went here for dinner with a couple of friend's. Great service. Huge menu. Everybody enjoyed their meal. The size of the meal was more than enough. Fires going. So warm an cosy. What a gem. Would definitely go back for a meal again.
